India Chem 2014 will be held
between October 9-11, 2014
at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in the city
As the chemicals and
petrochemicals industry gears up for
the largest event of the year, the 8th
Biennial International Exhibition and Conference-India Chem 2014, Hon’ble
Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri
Ananth Kumar announced the launch of the event here today in presence of
Shri Indrajit Pal, Secretary, Dept C& PC, GoI, Shri Deepak C Mehta,
Chairman FICCI Chemical Committee, Shri
Satish Wagh, Chairman, Chemexcil
and Dr Arbind Prasad, DG, FICCI. The
launch is a kick off for the flagship event in October this year which is a
collaborative initiative by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals,
Government of India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(FICCI) along with the partner state-Gujarat.
The
aim of function was to interact with the industry and brief them on
next series of events that would culminate in holding the actual mega event,
i.e. India Chem on 09th to 11th October 2014 in Mumbai.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mr. Inderjit Pal,
Secretary, Deptt. Chemicals and Petrochemicals, GoI said “India Chem is an important platform for networking,
exchange of ideas, creation of awareness of new products & technologies,
and exploration of possibilities for enhancement of trade.This also provides an
excellent opportunity for the Indian chemical Industry to show case its
capabilities and strengths to the World Chemical Community.”
The
focus for this year’s event will be on growth with emphasis on sustainability
and green chemistry. The need of the
present economic scenario is to focus on full utilization of the available
opportunities, build sustainable chemical industry, investing in technology
that protects environment, and promote the “Responsible Care” initiative, which
is a model for Green Chemistry and an environmentally friendly step.
Mr. Deepak Mehta,
Chairman FICCI National Chemical Committee said “Green chemistry is crucial to increase the export
growth so that we can steadily increase our share in the global chemical
market. Through various efforts, the industry is incorporating technologies and
process that lead the country to the goal of being a leader of chemical
exports.”
India
is the 6th largest chemicals manufactures in the World and the 3rd
largest in Asia with the size worth 108.4 billion which accounts for about 3
percent of the global chemical industry. With current initiatives of the
industry and the government, the Indian chemical industry is expected to grow
at 11 percent per annum to reach the size of $224 billion by 2017.

The
largest event on Chemicals and Petrochemical Industry in India, in its 8th
edition i.e. India Chem 2014 will be organized from 9th-11th October 2014 jointly
by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India and
FICCI.
