Institute, the global association of investment management professionals, announced
that a record 21,883 candidates have registered for Level I, II, and III CFA
exams in India taking place on 23 June, a 30% growth YoY. The exams also mark
the 55th anniversary of the first CFA exam held in June 1963.
Mumbai
with 8,622, registered the highest number of candidates, followed by New Delhi with
5,080, Bengaluru with 2,128, and Kolkata with 2,078. Overall, India (21,883) is
third largest in number of candidates registered after China (65,877) and the
United States (42,024).
The Asia
Pacific region continues to be the largest source of candidates, with 120,436

Americas region saw the registration of 63,368 candidates, 28% of the total,
and 43,227 candidates registered in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA),
accounting for 19% of the total.
“The strong
demand for investment education rooted in ethics is testament to the CFA
Institute mission of raising ethical standards, improving professionalism, and
putting client interests first. I am also delighted to see that more women
candidates (37%) have registered for this year’s exam globally. The investment
management industry in India is becoming increasingly aware of the importance
of having inclusive workplaces and CFA Institute is taking proactive steps to
promote gender diversity through the India-first ‘Young Women in Investment’
initiative,” said Vidhu Shekhar, CFA, Country Head, India, CFA Institute.
In
1959, the Financial Analysts Federation (FAF) formed the Institute of Chartered
Financial Analysts (ICFA) to establish standards of ethics and competence for
security analysts, develop the exam, and bestow the title of Chartered
Financial Analyst (CFA) on those who passed. The FAF and ICFA eventually merged
to form what is now known as CFA Institute. On June 15, 1963, the inaugural
exam was administered at 27 test centres in the United States, Canada, and
London to 268 candidates, five of whom were women and one who took the exam
while on board the legendary Queen Mary ocean liner.
