Corporation Bank makes strides in Official Language Implementation

Corporation Bank has always been in the forefront in the implementation of Official Language Hindi.  The Bank has many achievements to its credit in the field of Official Language Implementation.

Corporation Bank is the convener of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC), Mangalore constituted under Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Official Language and Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank is the Chairman of the Committee.  35 Central Government Offices, 18 Undertakings and 30 Banks are members of the Committee.  The Committee comprises of 83 members. Mangalore TOLIC is one of the best TOLICs in India and it has won the prestigious Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puraskar three times.
Corporation Bank has promoted Official Language Hindi within the Bank as well as amongst TOLIC members.  It has also undertaken many innovative programmes to take Hindi to the masses.  In appreciation of these efforts, Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Official language has conferred Rajbhasha Vishist Samman on our Chairman & Managing Director.
Details of the initiatives taken by Corporation Bank to promote Hindi are as follows:
  1. Technology & Hindi:
All Computer Systems are enabled to work in Hindi.  The Bank’s website is in bilingual and on-line dictionary is also made available for working in Hindi.  Bilingual interface is also available for CBS in the Bank.
The Chairman’s messages are issued bilingually the Chairman’s Hindi Day message to staff was webcast through intranet throughout India which was probably first of its kind in banking industry.
Seminars are also organized from time to time to speed up bilingualisation of computers.
  1. Hindi Training and Workshops
Hindi workshops and training are organized regularly to equip the staff members to do their official work in Hindi.  Regular workshops are also conducted for employees to impart training in use of Hindi Unicode fonts on computers.  
3.      Publications:
To popularize official language amongst staff members, three magazines, Kshema, Mangala & Tridhara are published and help literature like workshop materials; Noting Sahayika etc. are also published.
      4.      Propagation:
Several programmes and competitions are organized in Hindi for staff and their family.  Hindi Day is celebrated every year in a befitting manner.
5.      Incentive Schemes:
Many Incentive Schemes are introduced in the Bank to encourage the staff members at various levels to work in Hindi like, Corp Rajbhasha Puraskar Yojana, Rajbhasha Sampark Adhikari Puraskar Yojana, Corp Karyapalak Puraskar Yojana, Rajbhasha Shield Scheme, Rajbhsahsa Shreshtatha Puraskar Yojana and Utkrisht Rajbhasha Adhikari Puraskar Yajana.
6.      Town Official Language Implementation Committee
Corporation Bank is guiding and supporting the Banks, Central Government Offices and Public Sector Banks in the implementation of Official Language.  Details of the activities of TOLIC can be seen at www.mangaloretolic.com.
7.      Other Innovative Programmes:
7.1  The Bank organized “Vivek Darshan” – a Musical Monologue in Hindi on the life & teachings of Swami Vivekananda on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.  The programme was presented by Shri Shekhar Sen, renouned actor, singer and music director.  Around 2300 people attended the programme.
7.2  A Musical Programme in Hindi by Padmashri A. Hariharan was organized on the occasion of 108th Foundation Day on 12th March 2013.  Around 2000 people attended the programme.  The programme was compered in Hindi and English. Banners were displayed at various places in Mangalore in Hindi and details about Bank’s products were given in Hindi.
7.3  A book titled ‘Aradhana’ was released on the occasion of 108th Foundation Day.
7.4  The Bank is the convener of Official Language Committee of South Based Public Sector Banks.  52nd Half Yearly Meeting of the Committee was held on 19th April, 2013.
7.5  The Sub-Committee on bilingual technology constituted by Ministry of Finance under the chairmanship of General Manager (IT) of Corporation Bank was held on 28th December, 2012.
7.6  A Bilingual Technology Research Institute is set up on the auspices of TOLIC, Mangalore. Training and research work is undertaken by the Institute in bilingual technology for the benefit of member organisations.  A Workshop on Online Reporting was organized on 28.05.2013.  Training was imparted by Dy. Director (Impl.), RIO, Bangalore in this workshop to officers of Corporation Bank and member organisations of TOLIC.
8.      Contribution for development of Kannada – the State Official Language
8.1  Kannada Section is incorporated in House Journal Kshema.
8.2  Kannada, Hindi and English are used in all public contact points.
8.3  All sign-boards in Karnataka are in Kannada, Hindi & English.
8.4  Publicity materials are printed in Kannada also
8.5  An Association called Sirigandha Kannada Balaga is formed with patronage from the Bank which brings out a publication called “Sirigandha”.  The Association organizes various literary programmes, lectures and competitions in Kannada.
8.6  Employees Sports & Recreation Club of Corporation Bank along with Sirigandha Kannada Balaga organizes Kannada Rajyotsava Function every year.
9.      Programme on Environment Awareness:
A Programme on Environment Awareness was organized in Hindi in association with Indian Coast Guard on 15th September 2012. Students from schools and colleges and staff members of the member organisations of TOLIC participated in the Awareness Programme.
10.  “Corporation Bank Rajbhasha Bharati” – a programme to teach Hindi is regularly broadcast by All India Radio Mangalore, under Bank’s sponsorship.
The Chairman & Managing Director of Corporation Bank said that all these were possible in a south based bank only because of the love of the people of South towards the nation and the language.
