Tata Open India International Challenge 2014 witnesses
an enthralling first day of qualifying rounds












Mumbai, December 10, 2014: Kaushal Dharmamer and Kabir Kanzarkar registered victories to move to the main draw of the Men’s Singles at the Tata Open India International Challenge 2014(Tata Open)badminton tournament on the day of qualifying rounds held at the Cricket Club of India.The other qualifiers for the main draw scheduled for tomorrow are Pratul Joshi, Utkarsh Arora, Amey Joshi, Kaushal Dharmamer, Kabir Kanzarkar, Sachin Rawat and Siddharath Thakur.



The first day of the tournament witnessed fierce competition amongst the players with all eyes on upcoming star Kaushal and Nigel D’Sa, son of former champion Leroy D’Sa.  While Kaushalregistered an easy win over Ameya Oak(21-10, 21-13) in a game that lasted less than thirty minutes, Nigel lost toKabirin a grueling three set match which lasted for an hour.Kaushal will now face Sameer Verma, and Kabirwill battle it out with Gaurav Venkat in the main draw, tomorrow.
Also,joining them in the main drawwill beSachinRawat who bounced back after losing in the first set (19-21), by winning the second and third sets (21-15, 21-19), against the second seed in the qualifying rounds, Ashish Sharma.








In Men’s Doubles,the top-seeded duo of the qualifying rounds,K Nandagopal and Arjun Kumar Reddy Malgari defeatedAbhidnyaSawantand Prasad Shetty in two straight games in Round 2 (21-18, 21-19). In another match of the day, Bikash Shrestha and RatnajitTamang from Nepal lost to KabirKanzarkar and Akshay Raut(21-14, 21-18).  

In the Mixed Doubles,Shlok Ramachandran and J Meghana registered an easy win over Dinesh Chaudhry and Ritu Vinayak in two straight games (21-5, 21-6), while ChiragShetty and KuhooGarg had to sweat it out to beat Jagadish Yadav and VarshaV Belawadi(20-22, 21-12, 21-15).

About the Cricket Club of India:

The club’s indoor badminton facility named after the legendary Sir NowrojiSaklatwala consists of four state of the art courts with temperature and humidity control.
