MTDC has unveiled 43-seater, 5 such Volvo buses which will run on a packaged route of Konkan from Mumbai and Pune. The semi-sleeper buses will be equipped with a pantry, serving refreshments to the tourists.

There will be a chemical toilet for comfort, GPS tracking systems for safety, LCD TV for entertainment and the last but not least, wi-fi for the tourists who wish to be connected with the world online, while taking a drive alongside the Arabian Sea on Konkan route.

Chhagan Bhujbal, Honourable Minister for Tourism, Goverment of Maharashtra, said, "Maharashtra has a vast avenue of tourist destinations. The Konkan region holds a prominance and attract tourists from all parts of the country and world. The high-end Volvo service will add one more reason to visit Konkan."

The package will offer a 1300 km drive and stays at the luxury resorts of MTDC on the way. Informing about the itinerary, Dr Jagdish Patil, Managing Director, MTDC, said, "The proposed route from Mumbai covers Harihareshwar, Murud-Janjira, LotaParshuram Temple, Baate Beach, Sindhudurgh, MalvanTarkarli, Kudaleshwar and Sawantwadi. Similarly, the proposed itinerary from Pune includes, Kolhapur."

Konkan region offers a unique travelling experience. The entire stretch is full of lush green surroundings as it is on the Deccan platue. Combining with the hills, on western side is the vast Arabian Sea with some exhotic beaches. Moreover, there are several important pages from history which the tourists can revisit especially, that of the great Maratha warrior Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his battles with the Moghuls. There are several forts built and captured by Shivaji which are architecture marvels.

While there are small coastal villages enroute to the sore eyes, spicy yet tempting Konkani cuisine is there to satiate the tastebuds with fresh sea-food as well as veg and some local dessert preparations.

The people are warm and welcoming. Without hesitation, one can enter small farms(wadi) of the locals to relish on some coconut water and may also ask for homestay at nominal costs. It is not a home-away from home but a home to return for peace and tranquility.
