Hon. Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, inaugurates INDIAPACK-2013
The Indian Institute of Packaging's  bi-annual initiative, INDIAPACK 2013 is now in its 5th edition and being organized at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon East, Mumbai  during 28th to 31st January, 2013 with the theme, Packaging for Economic Growth⮠
 
Dr. (Mrs.) D. Purandeswari, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India inaugurated the same.
 
The exhibition has about 11 overseas exhibitors from USA, , Poland  China, Germany, The Netherland, Denmark, Australia, Japan and Taiwan etc; about 120 exhibitors, and three pavilions from state governments are participating- viz- Karnataka, Jharkhand and Bihar.
Concurrently  a two-day International Summit on "Emerging Trends in New Generation Packaging", with an objective to disseminate knowledge on issues like environment, health, safety innovation, aesthetics, quality, economics and consumer convenience, on 29th 30th January, 2013 at Hotel The Leela, Mumbai.
About  42 speakers will be present, including 18 international speakers who will disseminate the latest trends in packaging  globally.
Says Dr.Purandeswari, India is the 6th largest packaging market in the world with sales of 24.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2011. The packaging industry is expected to grow at CAGR of 12.3% during the next 4 to 5 years to become the 4th largest global market, with sales of U.S. dollars 42.7 billion. This growth rate is far higher than the world average growth of 6% per annum. Indiapack 2013 will definitely be a major intervention in technology and knowledge sharing across the industry.
INDIAPACK 2013 is supported by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Food Processing Industries , Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India.
Userwise; the share of Indian Packaging Industry Sector wise is broadly estimated to be:
Processed Food: 48%
Personal Care Products: 27%
Pharmaceuticals: 6%
Others: 19%
Prof.C Saha, the Director of the Indian Institute of Packaging, said on the occasion the total turnover of the packaging industry in India is 24.6 bn USD. Globally its about 550bn USD. There are roughly 22000 packaging companies in the country, comprising of raw material manufacturers to machinery suppliers to ancillary material. 85% of these 22000 units are MSMEs. India is at the threshold of explosive growth and we are looking forward to a great exhibition and knowledge sharing.
S K Ray Chairman,  IIP added, "  In India, the per capita consumption of packaging is only 4.3 kg per person per annum,  as against Germany which is at 42 kg and even  Taiwan which is at  20kg which is very low as compared to global standards. Initiatives like Indiapack will convert large unpacked commodities into processed and packed and well-presented commodities. There is an abundance scope for innovation, entrepreneurship as well as logistical advancements."
Also present on the occasion was , Mr. Thomas Schneider, President , World Packaging Organisation; Mr. Subodh Gupta, Chairman- INDIAPACK Exhibition  And other Governing Body members.
In short, INDIAPACK-2013 is a great initiative for promoting the Indian Packaging Industry which contribute to 2% GDP to the Indian economy.
