PEHL step up to help Uttarakhand Survivors

 

 

 

As we all know about the Cloudbursts, floods and landslides brought on by incessant rain over the past few days have left a trail of destruction across north India, killing people, injuring scores and leaving thousands stranded.  As the country got together to rally round the tragedy-struck state, PEHL(Prime Education Health Learning Services) has lent a helping hand to the survivors of the disaster.

 

 

Dr. Amit Thadhani, Director, PEHL- Prime Education Health Learning Services (Not-for-profit organization) with some other doctors visited Uttarakhand for a first-hand understanding of the requirements of the affected locals, before they proceed with the entire team. This is first such initiative by doctors from Navi Mumbai.

 

Sharing his experience Dr. Amit Thadhani-Director PEHL, said, 1st of the tourists have been rescued but the conditions of the locals is worsening. They have lost all their belongings and they have been left with not even the basic amenities like food, shelter & clothing. At least 300 villagers have already reported sick with diarrhoea and dysentery which is common in situations like this. In fact flooding is associated with an increased risk of infection and other diseases.

 

Many Not-for-profit organizations like Ramkrishan Mission, Shanti Kunj, are working for providing relief to the locals but there is a need for more resources and a lot of planning to restructure their lives and make it normal once again. PEHL is sending relief materials like Blankets, basic Utensils & Tarpaulins for the locals.

 

PEHL will be sending 2 medical teams, consisting of 6 doctors each to Uttarakhand in the coming weeks, soon after 20^th of July. They would also like to appeal their fellow doctors to join them in this noble cause. The long term plan of PEHL includes Rehabilitation of the locals by adopting some villages and helping them build their businesses once again, so that they can fund themselves and live a normal life.
