Godrej Eon Tour De India 2013- the biggest

 cycling event of the world announces its 

second edition

Godrej Eon Tour De India 2013 in association with Avon Cycles, the biggest cycling event under the aegis of UCI and CFI announced its edition II today. The launch at the ITC Grand Maratha witnessed Brand Ambassador - John Abraham & corporate personalities from Godrej Eon, Avon cycle, Schneider Electric along with political leader Chagan Bujbal (Public Works & special assistance department) among others. 


The evening was lively with health guru Mickey Mehta conducting exercising session for the guests and also interacting with guests to understand their health regime. Also, John Abraham interacted with Red FM - RJ J Man who is the mascot for the Mumbai leg of the cyclothon.  The multi-city event will tour Mumbai, Jaipur and Delhi on December 15th, 17th and 22nd respectively this year. Promoted by ID Sports, Cycling Federation of India and UCI and marketed by Total Sports Asia, the cycling event will culminate in Delhi NCR in Buddh International Circuit.


The event is well on track for its biggest year yet. Entry levels are on set to surpass last year’s figures and organizers are looking forward to welcoming more cyclists than ever before. As of November, the entry figure for the Cyclothon is 22,000 plus cyclists, including the 100 plus cyclists expected from overseas.


This year will be far more exciting where the cyclists will be gunning to break the record of covering 160 kms within 180 mins, ensuring the race for the finish will be a close and exciting one. Empowering the cause of ‘You are the Engine-Find the Champion in you’ the cycling carnival will witness participation from Elite cyclists, specially able people, children and masses along with the masses from all walks of life. Godrej Eon, Avon cycles, Garnier, Honda, Renault, Sony Six, Golds Gym, Schneider Electricals are just some of the many companies who have encouraged their staff to do something inspirational like cycling this year and take on the challenge. The multi-city event will tour Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur this year.


Speaking at the launch, Dr. Akil Khan, Chairman and Managing Director, ID Sports and Vice Chairman – Enso Care added, “We are thrilled at the level of interest the event has attracted this year. We have been working hard to grow the event and develop it into a recognized international race capable of attracting good cyclists.  We will have a minimum of 150 plus runners from overseas. Through Godrej Eon Tour de India we plan to match up to the largeness of Tour de France in the coming years; a cycling event that runs through 21 cities and the future of World cycling living in India. The Fourth year will witness seriousness towards cycling by showcasing evolution of cycling from being a poor man’s transport to a healthy sport till date. We will see a lot of corporate participation, specially able champions, masses and international cyclists who are a part of top races of the world coming to India.”

Chaggan Bhujbal, Minister of Public Works & Special assistance department, Maharashtra state “Cycling is an evolving sport in our country and we are excited about getting connected to Tour De India, the biggest cyclothon in India. We are hoping to find an Indian champion through this property.”

Though our association with Godrej Eon Tour De India, 2013, we intend to donate a share of proceedings to charity. This year a share of the proceeds will go towards World Vision, a humanitarian charitable organization.”
ID Sports has conducted 7 Cyclothons in the last 3 years, 1st year was in association with Salman Khan tapping 2 major metros close to 15,000 riders in Mumbai and Delhi and 2nd year saw the race going to Nasik ghats with finales again in Mumbai in 2011 with more than 17000 riders burning the roads followed by last year in 2012 when the race started from Sea Link Bandra to go across Dal lake in Srinagar and concluded at the Buddh Circuit in Delhi with 20,000 riders across 3 cities.

All registered participants will be given a cycling kit consisting of a helmet, water bottle and certificate. Enthusiasts can sign up for individual participation or as part of a group or corporate team. A Godrej Eon Tour de India expo will be organized for participants to collect their official bib (participation) numbers and cycling kits. One can also register on the spot at the expo.
