Customs to meet Catholic Gym in opening men’s match

Mumbai : Mumbai Customs will take on Catholic Gymkhana in a men’s first round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 36th Invitation Rink Hockey Tournament – 2016 for the Victor D’Mello Memorial Trophy, which commences at the Gymkhana's floodlit tennis courts from Wednesday, March 2, 2016. In the second match, Sea View SC face off against Mumbai Port Trust.

All leading players, representing the top Mumbai teams will be seen in action during the five-day tournament to be played on a knockout basis and the finals are scheduled for Sunday, March 6.

The participating teams in the men's event include, Mumbai Customs, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Abhi Sports Foundation, Bombay Republicans, Companeroes, Rhema Sports, Sea View, Sports Authority of India and Ave Maria (Dadar). Eight women teams have confirmed their participation. There are also be a women’s competition in which eight teams will be vying for the top honours.

Olympian Viren Rasquinha will be Chief Guest on the first day and preside over the Opening Ceremony. Four-time Olympian Dhanraj Pillay will be the Chief Guest for the finals and will present the Trophies and other awards to the winning and runners-up teams.

Mayor praises the footballing talent of Mumbai as he announces young stars will travel to London

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the names of the successful youngsters on the first day of his trade mission to India. Sadiq was attending the ninth annual finals day of the Mumbai Soccer Challenge and watched a challenge match to win the inaugural Mayor of London Cup. He confirmed that, for the first time in the scheme’s nine-year history, two girls as well as two boys will be heading to London.
