Mumbai, November 12: Supriya Devgun, co-owner of Solitaire Shuttlers played a key role to inspire her team to a comfortable 4-1 win against King Shuttlers in a Round-II league match of the 2nd Yonex Sunrise- NSCI Badminton League (NBL), and played at the NSCI badminton hall, Worli. This was Solitaire’s second win on the trot.
Devgun combined well with Nazim D. to score a convincing 21-15, 21-9 victory over Kajal Mehta and Nilay Choksey in the mixed doubles rubber to set the tone for Solitaire’s charge to victory.
The others who contributed towards Solitaires’ victory were Neeral Shah and Nikhil Bansali, who rallied to overcome Yamir Sanghvi and Darshak Tanna 19-21, 21-12, 15-14 in the first men’s doubles rubber. Later, Bonish Shah and Kashish Mehta tamed Aditya Damani and Mehul Aggarwal 21-6, 21-15 to give Solitaire a 3-0 lead. However, Solitaire’s winning run was halted when their pairing of Tushar Jhaveri and Manish Jain went down fighting to the King Shuttlers’ combination of Pratik Chhabra and Naushad D. 14-21, 23-21, 9-15. But in the fifth rubber, Nikhil Mansukani and Chirag Kamdar outplayed Suneet Kabra and Pranamaya Joshi 21-18, 21-11 to complete Solitaire’s win.
In other second round matches, Roaring Raqueteers who had suffered a crushing 0-5 defeat at the hands of King Shuttlers in Round-I, bounced back nicely to record a spirited 4-1 win against Mavericks Aces.
Meanwhile, Rajdhani Royal also recorded their first win with a clinical 4-1 win over Giant Slayers, who succumbed to their second straight loss. Royal had lost their Round-I match 2-3 to Maverick Aces earlier.
