The Indian Maharaja “Deccan Odyssey” of MTDC bags Asias’s Best LuxuryTrain Awards


The Indian Maharaja- Deccan Odyssey  an uber luxury on railway tracks, has once again emerged as an unchallengeable contestant in the space of tourism as the Indian Maharaja –Deccan Odyssey of Maharashtra Tourism
Development Corporation (MTDC) has won the Asia’s Best luxury Train Award at the 19th  WorldTravel Awards in the category of ‘Asia’s Leading Luxury Train-2012’.
Riding on the excellence in service and offerings, the Indian Maharaja had also won the same award in 2011and 2010. It had always been a close contest as the other contenders in therace were equally powerful. The nominees for the award included, Eastern &Oriental Express, Palace on Wheels, The Golden Chariot Train and The Viceroy of India.
The week-long tour of The IndianMaharaja includes several exotic destinations covering the vast expanse ofnorth western India, through the cities of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur,Udaipur, Aurangabad and Mumbai.
The royal retreat at the trainfor passengers include, Library, Bar, Ayurvedic Massage Centre, Steam Bath,Gymnasium, Beauty Parluor, Business Centre, Special Suite for Physically challenged, Fully loaded mini pantry in each coach, Telephone in each saloon, Television in each coach, Plasma TV in Lounge Car, and Music Systems.
The Indian Maharaja – Deccan Odyssey has 21 coaches out of which 11 are passenger cars with 4 coupes each. Additionally, there are 2 Presidential Suite Cars with 2 coupes per car. Thereare 2 restaurant cars, 1 lounge/bar car and a Spa Car.
The Indian Maharaja- Deccan Odyssey was also nominated for
