Mumbai to host WTC General Assembly
 
After a long gap of 25 years, Mumbai will host the four-day World Trade Centre General Assembly, beginning on Sunday and likely to witness participation from over 300 global experts, policymakers, industrialists and marketing gurus.
 
The theme of the 44th General Assembly of the World Trade Centres Association, New York,a non-profit, non-political organisation, set up in 1970 and has as many as 340 members operating from 102 countries is ‘The new economic order and WTCs’.
 
While the Union government will be represented by Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, the event will be opened by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.The four-day event will see renowned personalities like noted tax specialist and adviser to the Finance Minister Parthasarathi Shome, Nouriel Roubini of Roubini Global Economics, and Hans Martens of the European Policy Center, Brussels, among others, presenting their views on promoting cross-continental interaction to explore new market opportunities.The board meeting of the WTC on Sunday will be followed by formal opening ceremony on Monday.
 
A special session on branding and marketing will take place to discuss the promotion of the WTC brand and to encourage the establishment of new WTCs.
 
Garcia Bercero, director of external trade at the European Commission will deliver a special address on Tuesday on ‘EU-India relations and perspectives on FTA’.On Wednesday, Roubini, who predicted the collapse of the American housing market and the worldwide recession will address the session.On the same day, Parthasarathi Shome will give a view on his vision for the global economy and discuss geopolitical risks.
 
On the other hand, WTC Mumbai was established over four decades ago, to promote and facilitate trade with the world.
