Pavitravivah 2015 and Dabbawalas to play a part in reducing hunger in the city

26th Dec 2015: Maharashtrian weddings are not known for a lot of
pomp and grandeur, but they are subtle, classy and expensive affairs. Pre
1990’s Maharashtrian weddings used to be an extremely simple affair with
rituals being held in houses with close family members. However, from 1990, the
whole trend of Maharashtrian weddings changed with the advent of
cross-community bonding and improved standard of living. The first-ever 2-day
Maharashtrian Wedding Show titled. The show will showcase some of the latest trends and witness live fashion
shows, bridal make up and wedding stage sets.
Pavitravivah 2015 has tied up with the
Mumbai Dabbawala Association, which will help in collecting the leftover food
and distribute to the needy. This awareness campaign started by Pavitravivah is
a part of their CSR activity to educate the public on food wastage. Mumbai
Dabbawala Association has taken up this noble endeavor to help the underprivileged
gain access to food. The Dabbawalas have committed themselves to collect food
leftover from weddings. The dabbawalas will ensure the food is reaching out to
the right people and ensuring that the food is delivered to them. It is a
unique tie-up for Pavitravivah 2015 as they are ensuring people will not go
hungry.
Mumbai Dabbawala started about 125 years back when a Parsi banker wanted to have home cooked food regularly in office and gave this responsibility to the first ever Dabbawala. Other people also liked the idea and the demand for Dabba delivery soared. It was all informal and individual effort in the beginning, but visionary Mahadeo Havaji Bachche saw the opportunity and started the lunch delivery service in its present team-delivery format with 100 Dabbawalas. “The tie-up with Mumbai Dabbawala Association will help in ensuring that any leftover food from any wedding will reach the needy. All they have to do is send a message to the Dabbawala’s and they will send their representatives to correct the leftover food. This will help to redure hunger in the city”, said Mr. Rushikesh Kadam, Festival Director, Pavitravivah 2015. Pavitavivah – 2015 cause which the festival aims to throw light on is ‘Food Wastage’. Pavitravivah 2015 will be tying up with a helpline which helps donate & distribute the remaining food from a wedding for needy people. Also, proceeds from the event will go towards Mass weddings campaigns in drought ridden areas of Vidharbha.
