Reliance combine perfectly to clinch mixed team crown

Mumbai, September 19: Reliance Industries came up with the best combination to snatch the mixed team’s crown in the 3rd edition of the 11Even Sports Inter-Corporate TT tournament promoted by NSportz and played at the Khar Gymkhana. In an absorbing and exciting summit clash, Reliance brushed aside the strong, spirited challenge from TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) to post a close 3-2 victory.
Viral Patel set the ball rolling for Reliance when he came from behind to score over Aakash Damle in the opening men’s singles rubber. Trailing 1-2, Viral staged a solid fight back to register a 14-12, 5-11, 1-11, 13-11, 12-10 before Swagata Dey extended Reliance lead to 2-0 by easily defeating Apeksha B. 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 in the women’s singles tie.
However, Reliance’s march to victory was cut short as TCS men’s doubles pairing of Damle and Vishal pulled off a fine 11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7 win over Viral Patel and Satish Patel. Later, the TCS mixed team duo of Damle and Apeksha played steadily to put it across the Reliance combo of Viral Patel and Dey by romping to a 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6 win and level the match scores.
In the deciding rubber (second men’s singles), Reliance’s Satish Patel defeated Vishal Yadav 11-6,11-5,11-6 to ensure his team emerged triumphant.
However, the men’s team final was a tame affair with HDFC Life coasting to a 3-0 victory against Reliance Industries.
Results - Mixed Teams (Finals): Reliance Industries bt TCS 3-2 (Viral Patel bt Aakash Damle 14-12, 5-11, 1-11, 13-11, 12-10; Swagata Dey bt Apeksha B. 11-5, 11-9, 11-8; Viral Patel/Satish Patel lost to AakashDamle/Vishal 5-11, 8-11, 12-10, 7-11; Viral Patel/Swagata Dey lost to Aakash/Apeksha 7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 6-11; Satish Patel bt Vishal Yadav 11-6,11-5,11-6).
Men’s Teams (Finals): HDFC Life bt Reliance Industries 3-0 (Yash bt Gautam B. 11-3, 11-7, 11-9; Suraj bt Aman 11-3, 11-4, 13-11; Yash/Sova bt Amit/Gautam 11-7, 11-9, 11-3).

Mayor praises the footballing talent of Mumbai as he announces young stars will travel to London

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the names of the successful youngsters on the first day of his trade mission to India. Sadiq was attending the ninth annual finals day of the Mumbai Soccer Challenge and watched a challenge match to win the inaugural Mayor of London Cup. He confirmed that, for the first time in the scheme’s nine-year history, two girls as well as two boys will be heading to London.
