An extension to WHO’s Annual Theme ‘Depression Let’s Talk

This Sunday, let’s talk feelings and also have fun while at it with Phulpakharu,  a unique initiative organized by Siddhant Prathishtan to fight depression on the lines of WHO’s theme of the year for this World Health Day – Depression: Let`s Talk. The fast paced modern lifestyle has schooled us to bottle up our feelings and keep moving. This often triggers depression and similar ailments. One of the easiest way to fight depression is to talk it out as opening up about yourself is the best anti-depressant. Having realized the lack of awareness and stigma around the topic, Siddhant Prathishtan launches Phulpakharu, a unique 1 day event scheduled on 9th April that brings professional psychologists and counselors who will conduct individual sessions free of cost to help people fight depression in a warm approachable environment. The event will also equip caregivers to help people who are suffering from depression.

The event is blended with engaging activities like Dance Walkathon, Cyclothon, Bikeathon, Musical Fitness, Music Therapy, Laughter Therapy, Meditation and Yoga awaits you. It does not end here. There are soothing attractions like Shadow act, cultural activities by especially abled patients, street plays that lies ahead for you. Let your worries dissolve into cheers with a fun-filled start of the day.

DID YOU KNOW According to a recent estimate by WHO, the number of people suffering from depression has increased by 18% between 2005 and 2015 which criticizes this as the largest cause of disability worldwide. Today, depression is the second most leading reason of death, mainly amongst the 15 – 29 age group. Depression is infectious to people across all ages across the globe and is triggered by various happenings and events in the victim`s life. There is not one reason attached to the cause of depression but depression is that one reason for the cause of many other fatal diseases including diabetes and heart attack. This is triggered by various life events such as loss of a loved one, unemployment, poverty, loneliness, physical disability and most recently included – lifestyle. There is no fast pace cure for this .However, improvement can be sought through proper consultations, medications and healthy lifestyle and more than anything, opening up about it to a trustworthy person.

Dr. Anjali Deshpande, Member of Siddhant Pratishtan and Chief Counsellor, Thane Mental Hospital & Ms. Sadhna Pradhan, Founder SIddhant Prathishtan are the women behind driving this initiative and are available for interactions.
