BROMPTON BICYCLES GO ON SALE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN INDIA
by Shrutee K/DNS
Bengaluru: Brompton
Bicycle, the iconic folding bike manufacturer, is delighted to announce, for
the first time ever, the sale of its bikes through ProCycle & Sports based
in Bengaluru, India. ProCycle & Sports located in Bengaluru,
began selling the London-made bikes in Nov 2017 and showcases an extensive
range of Brompton products.
The Brompton bike is a smart choice for
savvy city people, as it’s able to fold down to a third of its size, and weighs
on average just 11kg, which makes it suitable to take on all forms of transport
and perfect for easily fitting under most Metro Rail scanners. The bike is also
great for putting in the boot of a car for a city escape or storing in a taxi
when the weather changes or you want to get home late at night. Adding to its city suitability, with its
environmental benefits, one Brompton bike takes 6.2 tonnes less carbon to
produce than a car, and a total of 42 Brompton bikes can be parked in a space
designed for just one car.
Vikram Limsay, Managing Director, ProCycle
& Sports said ‘ProCycle & Sports are excited to see the growth of
Brompton over the next year. The brand is iconic across the world and we are
hoping it will be as popular in India with many commuters using all forms of
transport to get around. Our excellent customer service offered in both
ProCycle & Sports stores, ensures customers will be able to buy their
perfect Brompton from us, with any colour, handlebar or gear preference
tailored to them. We can ship your Brompton to any location in India and are in
the process of setting up an extensive network throughout the country. “Cycling is becoming increasingly popular
in India and Brompton is proud to be a part of its growth. With ProCycle &
Sports now selling Brompton bikes, we hope even more cities can enjoy life on a
Brompton! Brompton is about fun and simplicity, which makes us the perfect
folding bike for anyone living in an urban area. We look forward to working
with ProCycle & Sports on this exciting new venture for us in India” Will
Butler-Adams, CEO Brompton Bicycle.
Brompton’s history can be traced back to
1975, when the inventor and founder, Andrew Ritchie, created prototypes of
Brompton bikes from his bedroom in South Kensington, London opposite the
Brompton Oratory. Brompton is the leading bike manufacturer in the UK, and all
bikes are manufactured in their West London factory. This year the company
looks set to produce over 45,000 bikes this year, with over 500,000 already on
the road. Each bike is hand brazed by a skilled craftsman at our London factory.
This makes every bike incredibly tough and unique. Each brazer is trained for
18 months and has a “signature” which are stamped on the parts of the bike they
work on.
Looking to the future, Brompton recently
unveiled the Brompton Electric bike which hits UK stores in 2018. The bike
still maintains its style and quality craftsmanship but with the added benefits
of electric assistance. The integration of the battery into a compact bag which
seamlessly clips onto the front of the bike makes it simple to carry both the
bag and bike separately. Key features include a 300Wh battery (allowing for a
range of 25-50 miles), torque and cadence sensor, 3 assistance modes and a
powerful 250W front hub motor. Launch
will follow in selected markets with timings dependent on the scale of the
initial demand in the UK. Sign up for more information at www.brompton.com/Electric.
