K C College Department of Mass Media Organises 5th International Media Summit

10 International delegates from Swedish universities and Liverpool university graced the event and presented their research papers

16 February 2018:The day one of the fifth Annual International Media Summit organized by  the Department of Mass Media, Kishinchand Chellaram College in association with Jonkoping University and Communication, Culture and Diversity, Sweden saw a variety of research papers presented by. And sessions by the keynote speakers. The event was chaired by  Ashish Bhasin Chairman & CEO - South Asia, Dentsu Aegis Network. The two-day interdisciplinary conference is based on the theme Mediamorphosis: Identity and Participation.
Bhasin speaking about the future of media said “The media has now moved from traditional to digital and so has the consumption. Also, there is a paradigm shift from the brandview to the consumer view. If we were to look at the future of media we have to focus on the consumers.” Speaking about the event, Bhasin also added, “It is a unique event being organized for the students, by the students with the guidance of their professors which give them a global exposure to be a part of the industry in the near future.”
Speaking about the event Dr. Hemlata Bagla the principal of K C College said, “The media is now learning to coexist with its traditional form and keeping one eye on the future as well. While the digital space has taken over the markets, its strill not the only mode of media consumed by the Indian markets”.
Speaking about the conference, Dr Hemlata Bagla, Principal, KC College said, “The level of our media conference this year has moved up another notch as we have delegates from Swedish universities and Liverpool University. She added, “This year’s theme is Mediamorphosis: Identity and participation, these terms itself denote the evolution of humankind and communication. The interdisciplinary conference will see views from experts who support that fact that media is not just advertising and journalism. It has spread along to various faculties such as science, technology, sociology etc. With this, media today and its influences by political, social and other technological forces around too is redefined.
Elaborating further, Ms. Manjula Srinivas, Head, Department of Mass Media, asserted, “We are really excited for our upcoming Media Summit. We are gathering some of the most brilliant minds to enlighten our students and attendees. A great platform where one can generate and distribute valuable insights to shape the communication industry today.”
The keynotes speakers for the conference are Dr. Ernesto Abalo, senior lecturer from Jonkoping University, Sweden and Dr Jayalakshmi Garrabost, Associate Professor from Xi’an Jiantong – Liverpool University, China. Dr Jayalaxmi Garrabost screened documentary named ‘Going home’ for the first time. The documentary sent the audiences back down their memory lane. The documentary covered some very touching aspects about travelling in India and also going back to the roots.
The Day 2 of the conference will truly be an enriching experience as it will provide students and participants a platform to interact and learn with the leaders from the education field and media industry. There will be 21 paper presenters who will be presenting their researches and finding on interesting topics like transport, healthcare, radio, social media, gender, education, digitalization and cyber space. A panel discussion on the topic ‘Redefining Media’ is one of the main highlights on the second day, which will have prominent personalities like senior Supreme Court lawyer Mr Jamshed Mistry, Bollywood actress Kajal Aggarwal, Head of Media & Publicity at the Goa International Film Ms Ethel Da Costa among others as panellists.

Dr. Sangeeta Bagga-Gupta, a professor at the School of Education and Communication, Jönköping University
Dr. Ylva Lindberg who is an associate Professor, and holds a position as a Dean of Research at Jönköping University, School of education and communication
Prof. Mia Verhoeff-Friman, who is a faulty at the School of Education and Communication, Jönköping University
Ms. Loraine Gauteul, who studies international Communication in the master program at Jönköping University
Dr. Anette Svensson, who is a senior lecturer in English Literature at The School of Education and Communication at Jönköping University
Mr. Lars Almén, who is a doctoral student at Jönköping University
Marie Fullsta International Relations Manager, School of Education and Communication, Jönköping University
About Kishinchand Chellaram College and Department of Mass Media:  KC College was established in 1954 under the aegis of the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board, H(S) NC Board.
