Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal wins One Globe Forum award

     Vedanta’s Nand Ghar project aims to touch lives of around 4 million community members
New Delhi : Vedanta Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal has been bestowed with the prestigious 7th annual One Globe Forum (OGF) award for creating a strong social impact for the communities the group operates in, and for initiatives such as Nand Ghar. One Globe Forum is India’s leading forum that brings together global thought leaders to discuss, deliberate and debate on the ideas for building a 21st century knowledge economy.
This year, the forum had the presence of stellar leaders from over 25 countries representing business, government, academia and think tanks. The OGF was inaugurated by Mr. Arun Jaitley, Minister of Finance along with Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing Industries.
“Nand Ghar” has been one of the most successful initiatives of Vedanta committed to transform the lives of 8.5 crore children and 2 crore women across India. There are 94 Nand Ghars running across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Nand Ghar project is in line with Hon. Prime Minister’s flagship schemes: Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Startup India and Digital India. The model reimagines the existing Anganwadi Network present across the country and enhances the role of Anganwadi in the community reinstating how healthy children and empowered women will eradicate poverty and malnutrition, and make a prosperous nation. Vedanta plans to set up 4000 Nand Ghars over the next couple of years.
The infrastructure at Nand Ghar is being utilized in the mornings for children’s education and nutrition and in the afternoon for skill development of women. The impact is paving way for the model Anganwadi movement across the country.
Over 1000 children are being provided pre-packed, hot served wholesome nutrition every day
Around 150 Anganwadi workers/sahayikas have been trained to utilize TV for e-learning sessions and smart kits for interactive teaching sessions in all Nand Ghars
About 1000 OPDs are being conducted per week by the Nand Ghar mobile health van
More than 750 pregnant and lactating women are provided with immunization and regular health check-ups at Nand Ghars
More than 1600 women have been trained and 165 women have started their own micro-enterprises with a sum of 17.50 lakh rupees of credit distributed
The Nand Ghar project aims to touch lives of around 4 million community members while directly impacting around 2,00,000 children and around 1,80,000 women on an annual basis.
This award is a testament for generating focused outlook for creating sustainable businesses and impacting millions of lives through Vedanta’s social initiatives. The award was presented by Salman Khurshid, Former Minister of External Affairs, India to Mr. Sudhir Mathur, CEO, Vedanta Cairn Oil and Gas, and Ms. Pallavi Bhakru, Group Head Taxation, Vedanta, who received the award on behalf of Mr. Agarwal.
