Tata Motors expects high growth in its commercial vehicles sales

At Tata Motors , major demand drivers for M & HCV trucks are construction, infrastructure development, and manufacturing, movement of agri goods, mining and export / import. Unless there is significant growth in these sectors, the current trends would continue.
However a major stimulus would be required in sectors like road construction and infrastructure projects, resumption of mining in critical markets like Bellary, Goa, Orissa and Jharkhand, etc to see a sustained improvement in demand.Besides, reduction of interest rates will help increase consumer demand and hence associated movement of primary and finished goods.
Tata Motors expects to sustain its leadership position in the medium and heavy commercial vehicles segment with a slew of new launches.
“This is a highly competitive sector, and we would be happy if we are able to sustain our market share in this growing industry.A number of new players are also coming into this sector…,” Tata Motors Executive Director (Commercial Vehicles) Ravi Pisharody said.
At present, the company has about 68 per cent share in the medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) segment and has been holding fort for the past 10 years, he said, at the launch of Tata Motors’ heavy trucks. The company’s M&HCV segment, which was “relatively untouched” by the economic slowdown, has been growing both in “revenues and profits”.
Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle maker, is also looking at improving localisation (sourcing of components from the domestic market) from the present 70-80 per cent to about 100 per cent. However, he did not divulge the time-frame for increasing localisation.
“It’s an ongoing process,” Pisharody added. On the recent diesel price hike, Pisharody said it is a matter of concern for both transporters and vehicle manufacturers. “Transporters are very concerned. It is a large increase at one go. The impact would depend on the ability to pass on the hike to the clients.”He said that Tata Motors expects a 15-20 per cent surge in its commercial vehicles sales in the second half over the first half and pointed out that traditionally the second half is stronger, particularly the last quarter.“However, for the full year, we are likely to end up with slight decline in the MCV and HCV sales,” he said.
On Monday, the company launched six heavy trucks, including the Tata LPT 3723, which is the first 5-axle rigid truck in the country. The new launches also include an extension of its top-end Tata Prima range with two new versions. The vehicles are in the range of Rs 21.50 lakh to Rs 55 lakh.
TRACKING SOLUTION:Tata Motors also launched a vehicle tracking solution, Tata FleetMan Telematics Services, for transporters in the country.
