India Nuclear Energy 2012 organized by UBM India and Co-Organized by the Department of Atomic Energy Unveiled

Mumbai: The Department of Atomic Energy and UBM India today opened the doors on the 4th edition of the annual India Nuclear Energy Exhibition and Summit. The event was inaugurated on Tuesday, 25 September 2012 by Dr. R. K Sinha, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission; Dr. Srikanta K. Panigrahi, Director General- Indian Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD); Dr.S.K. Sharma, President-Indian Nuclear Society; Mr. S.K. Malhotra, Head-Public Awareness Division, Department of Atomic Energy; Mr. Michael Duck, Executive Vice President- UBM Asia and Mr. Sanjeev Khaira, Managing Director- UBM India.

The event organized by UBM India, co-organized by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and supported by the Indian Nuclear Society (INS) and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), is designed to facilitate not only exchange of products and technology but also to drive interaction and knowledge sharing around important issues concerning the nuclear energy space in India and globally.

India Nuclear Energy will present over 90 top suppliers of nuclear power plant equipment, safety materials, technology, services and know-how from across the globe. Some of the prominent participants at the show are the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Alstom, Rolta India, Nuvia India, Areva, Lisega, Infotech, Schiess, GERB, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). The main attractions of the event are the pavilions from FranceRussia and Korea.

A host of knowledge sharing forums on topics such as ‘where is the Indian Nuclear Energy Industry Heading’, ‘advanced steam turbine technology for nuclear application’, ‘safety and regulatory aspects of nuclear power plants’ etc. were addressed by industry experts on the 25th September 2012, at the co-located India Nuclear Energy Summit. The summit has delegates from the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy, Nuclear Power Plant from all over India, NPCIL and top energy organizations of IndiaFranceU.K., etc.
The Indo-French Nuclear Seminar was inaugurated by H.E. François RICHIER - Ambassador of France to India, EMBASSY OF FRANCE IN INDIA on Wednesday, 26 September 2012. Topics ranging from the opportunities and challenges in the Indian Nuclear industry to the contribution of French industries to India’s nuclear programme, procurement of technical equipment and safety of nuclear plants were discussed by experts from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd., French Nuclear Industry Association, Areva, etc.

Another key highlight of this year’s event wasthe Indo-UK collaboration seminar which took place on Thursday, 27 September 2012. The seminar presented insights into UK’s civil nuclear sector and information on developments in the new UK Nuclear civil build Programme.

It is well-known that radiations are used for diagnosis and therapy in medical sciences. In an Endeavour to promote the varied applications of nuclear radiations, UBM India also presents Radiation in Healthcare 2012- exclusive exhibition showcasing radiation-based medical equipment and services. The exhibition is co-located with India Nuclear Energy 2012 from the 25th to the 27th September 2012.

Radiation in Healthcare 2012 supported by key associations- Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), Society of Nuclear Medicine – India (SNMI), Association of Medical Physicists of India (AMPI) and Indian Association of Radiation Protection (IARP). The exhibition  accompanied by a co-located conference- Radiation in Healthcare Summit 2012 on Thursday, 27th September 2012. The conference wasbe addressed by key industry spokespersons- Dr. V.K. Iya, Ex-Director Isotope Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Center; Dr. A.K. Kohli, Chief Executive- BRIT; Dr. S.K. Shrivastava, Prof and Head of Department- Tata Memorial Centre, Dr. P.K. Pradhan, President- Society of Nuclear Medicine, India, Dr. Birajlaxmi Das- Scientific Officer (F), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Dr. D.D. Deshpande- President, Association of Medical Physicists of India.

Michael Duck, Executive Vice President, UBM Asia said “Nuclear Energy is a niche subject. Our objective of organizing India Nuclear Energy has been to allow the exchange of ideas, technology, innovation and experience which will foster overall growth and technological advancement in the sector. The co-located exhibition presenting radiation-based medical equipment and services is an attempt from UBM India to present the varied range of applications of nuclear energy and radiations. Sanjeev Khaira, Managing Director, UBM India added, “The recent failure of the northern grid that affected power supply across nine states in the country has reiterated the importance of the nuclear energy among others. ‘India Nuclear Energy’ attempts to be the platform for the nuclear fraternity to meet and discuss important issues plaguing the industry. This would contribute in improving the state of industry and also hasten the process of effectively utilizing nuclear energy to address larger economic issues.”
