New Delhi, 31st July, 2016: Aashna Foundation, a woman oriented non-profit organization, felicitated 30 women with Government affiliated certificates in Delhi. This group was under a two months efficient training period where they were imparted a full-fledged beautician course by the trained beauticians, under the Foundation’s ‘Learn and Earn Programme’. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Aruna Broota, India’s renowned psychologist.
‘Learn and Earn Programme’ is an initiative undertaken by the NGO to train underprivileged women in the age group of 18-35 years in non-traditional employment. Research proves that women in traditional areas usually work as household assistants, farming workers, etc. and they are usually insecure and underpaid and lack most of the benefits of their alternatives in official areas. However, this Government affiliated Certificates given by Aashna Foundation will assist them to work for their own well-being. This occasion was the NGO’s 2nd successful event this year. After the completion of their first batch, which comprised of around 15 girls, this time there was an overwhelming amount of applicants and, as many as double the number of girls got enrolled for the course, which was further divided into two batches.
Speaking during the event, Ms. Aashna Singhal, Founder of Aashna Foundation said, “I believe that every woman should be independent and work for her existence to make the womanhood self dependent and for overall upliftment in rural areas. Hence, I started this ‘Learn and Earn initiative’ of training the underprivileged women and making them job ready. When we were filling forms for this course, it was real sad to see there was not even a single form where the student’s father or husband was alive! Terrified to see their current situation, we really hope this course helps them in a great way.” The NGO also organized a one week training camp which was held at Garganga village, with trainers from Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) that trained the rural woman in making Papad, Badis, Masala and other miscellaneous food items. Aashna’s Foundation mission is to equip resource-poor women with knowledge and skills so that they excel as professionals and entrepreneurs, and earn a “livelihood with dignity” in jobs and markets that had traditionally been closed to them.
