Mumbai : Mumbai's marathon season will be
flagged off on December 14 with the 4th edition of MUSTRun. Organised by the
H-West Federation, this year's MUSTRun is expected to see participation from
serious runners, municipal school children, veterans, senior citizens and
persons with disability. Over 5000 enthusiasts are expected to participate in
categories such as Half Marathon, 10 km
Run including a Veterans’ segment for those above 45 years, and a 5 km
Dream Run for Oral Health Awareness.
In addition, there will be a Senior Citizens' Walk of 2 km for all those above
65 years. The Disabled segment includes a 1 km race. Registrations are now open and you can register online on www.mustrun.in or physically at the Kamalabai Nimbkar
Pustakalay (Khar Library), Near Madhu Park, Khar W. Like in earlier editions,
the participants will be running for causes like making the H West Ward
disabled-friendly and creating awareness of the importance of oral hygiene. The
national agendas of sanitation and cleanliness are also aligned with the causes
supported by MUSTRun this year.The event will be flagged off and
terminate at St. Stanislaus High School Grounds, Hill Road , Bandra West.
Sharing the details of the Event,
Ms. Anandini Thakoor, Chairperson, H-West Federation said, "The MUSTRun
this year will be a expression of solidarity by every Mumbaikar towards making
the city more humane, cleaner and respecting the dignity of women and whose who
are physically disabled. We are confident that MUSTRun will heighten awareness
about creating better access for the disabled, as well as stressing the need to
maintain good health and hygiene, especially oral hygiene. We hope to succeed in our projects in our H-West Ward to
begin with . We appeal to the citizens of Mumbai to support these causes by
participating in the event on December 14 and by also raising funds for these
causes through our online fund raising platform www.mustrun.ketto.org. ”Ms. Neenu
Kewlani, a noted activist fighting for the rights of persons with
disability, expressed that while
awareness regarding access for the disabled is increasing, Mumbai is far
from being a disabled friendly city.

Federation shared that MUSTRun will see
participation not only from professional runners, municipal school students,
youth, senior citizens, the differently-abled but also from representatives
from various NGOs, the MCGM, the Police Recruits as well as the Armed Forces. Dr. Neeraj Sheth, Director-The Dental Nexus,
shared the initiatives that will be taken up in municipal schools and other
parts of the ward with regard to dental hygiene post MUSTRun.
He mentioned that
hundreds of dentists will participate in MUSTRun to help create awareness on oral
health. The Dental Nexus has come forth to support the 5km Dream Run which has
been christened the “Oral Health Awareness Run”.
Renowned actor, filmmaker and
MUSTRun patron, Mr. Amole Gupte hopes that lot of celebrities will to join
MUSTRun in support of the causes. He lauded the effort of the Federation in
highlighting the cause of Municipal Children in partnership with the Citizens’
Association for Child Rights (CACR) and welcomed its initiative of having
municipal school children participate in an exclusive race in every MUSTRun.
The Federation Secretary also
informed that during the event, access-enabled toilets will be provided for
disabled participants. Also, Parisar Bhaginis of the Stree Mukti Sanghatana
will ensure that not a scrap of paper or plastic or any form of waste remains
on the routeor the ground after the event.This has been a feature of all the
MUSTRun editions held so far.This MUSTRun edition is accredited
to the Mumbai Suburban District Amateur Athletics Association and is supported
by a team of eminent marathoners, distance runners and technical officials.
About H-West Federation
The H-West Federation is a 21 year
old citizens' organization that has been working for the cause of the citizens
of the H-West Municipal Ward, i.e. Bandra, Khar and Santacruz. Today, the
Federation is considered one of the leading citizens' groups in the city of Mumbai and has been
responsible for spearheading a number of social initiatives in the area and
indeed the rest of the city. Amongst the various issues it has taken up till
date are voter awareness through Voting Registration campaigns and Meet your
Candidate events, preservation of Municipal Schools, freeing up of open spaces,
formation of Advanced Locality Management (ALM) groups, solid waste management,
environmental issues, awareness on Property Tax and N.A. Tax and several other
matters. The Federation has not hesitated to go to court and file PILs on
several matters in the interest of the general public and continues to do
so.The Federation is governed by the H-West Ward Citizens' Trust (HWWCT) and is
registered with the Charity Commissioner of Mumbai. The current Chairperson of
the Trust is well known veteran activist, Ms. Anandini Thakoor.
