celebrating “Rathasapthami”
The Balaji Temple at the
Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam Information Center Mumbai is celebrating
“Rathasapthami” (Ek Din Brahmotsav) on Monday the 26th January, 2015
at the temple premises from 7:30Am To 9:00Pm.
“Rathasapthami” is the
auspicious day when Lord of Seven Hills is taken in procession On the four streets
around the Tirumala Temple in 8
different vahanas (Vehicles) namely Surya Prabha, Chinna Sesha,Peddasesha,
Garuda, Hanumanth, , Kalpasvriksha, Sarva Bhoopala Vahanam, Chandraprabha to mark the journey of load Aditya (Sun God)
towards the Northern-Direction (Uttarayana).
This is followed by Chakra Snanam.
This day is considered very auspicious as it marks the end of dark cold months
and the commencement of bright, sunny, punya kaalam.
“ Rathasapthami ” is
observed on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha, or waxing phase of moon, in the
Magh Month (January – February) in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar.
The day
is of great significance
in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and
Tamil Nadu. In Orissa, the day is observed as Magha Saptami. In other
regions the day is observed as Surya Jayanti.
