'Enabling Food for All'

Mumbai, 10th November 2015: World over leaders are working towards ensuring ‘Enabling Food for All’ and have committed to share best practices, knowledge and research to equip farmers to overcome challenges. India along with 28 countries are gearing to meet the challenge of hunger posed by climate change, food wastage and lack of infrastructure.World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai and All India Association of Industries (AIAI) have organized the Global Economic Summit (GES) 2015, centred on the theme.
The Summit will have the unique combination of Conference, B2B, Exhibition and post event Farm Tours to Nagpur. Over 500 delegates comprising of stake holders including over 100 farmers will come under one roof to chalk out new paths and solutions to meet the challenge and explore new opportunities through cooperation.
More than 100 exhibitors will exhibit various facets of the agricultural sector from India, with the support of Government of Maharashtra. The Ministry of Agriculture, Maharashtra Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited (MAIDC) have actively cooperated to ensure the success of this Summit percolates to the farmers and SMEs. Delegates will be taken on farm tour to Nagpur enabling them to interact directly with farmers. Series of visits to different units like Haldiram’s factory, VANAMATI, Suruchi Spices, Nagpur Sortex and Vidarbha Industries Association are planned with the help of MAIDC.
The theme ‘Enabling Food for All’ is in keeping with the Sustainable Development Goals and International Year of Soils by the United Nations. The speakers will cover pertinent topics related to food and nutrition security, finance for agriculture, agricultural infrastructure role of women and attracting youth to agriculture. A special workshop on food procurement will be conducted by the United Nation Procurement Division. A targeted workshop for farmers will also be held to equip them with skills and latest practices followed in farming and harvesting. A research based strategy paper titled “Enabling Food for All” and a handbook which is slated to be a reference guide on agriculture, food and technology, will be released in the inaugural session to set the context for the summit.
The summit will convene some of the sharpest minds from over 28 countries representing voices of governments, multilateral agencies, farmers, private sector, institutions and markets. Senior officials from internationally renowned organisations including International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP), World Farmers Organisation (WFO), World Bank (WB), United Nations Procurement Division (UNPD) Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), New York will be sharing their viewpoints and experiences to offer sustainable and inclusive solutions.
The WTC Mumbai Summit has garnered pro-active support from Ministry of Commerce and Industries and Ministry of MSME and Government of India. State Governments of Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Punjab and Odisha are supporting the Summit. Ministries of Agriculture from five foreign countries and prominent international organisations, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have stepped forward to make GES 2015 a success.
