Mr India Bodybuilding -State Athletes in the Right Direction

Four made the cut into the final round of the championship; Holders on course

Maharashtra athletes were off in the right direction as four made the cut in their respective categories11th Mr. India Senior Men’s and Women’s Body Building & 6th Men’s and Women’s Physique Sports National Championship unfolded at the Shri Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge, Balewadi, here on Saturday.

Maharashtra’s , Sandesh Sakpal and Nitin Shigwan made it to the final round (55kg). Nitin Mhatre and Pratik Panchal also made the cut in the 60kgs category at the time of going to the press. There was a slight set back for the host as Srinivas Waske (Mah-A) failed to stay in the championship (65 kg) category, however, Srinivas Kharvi gave some reason for them to cheer about, as he was among the ten selected for the final.

Defending champions Railways Sport Promotion Board (RSPB) were also on board with three of their athletes qualifying for the finale to be held tomorrow, keeping their hopes alive to retain the title they had won in the last edition of the Championship. JJ Charaborty and Kundan Kumar Gope were the Railways qualifiers in the 55kg section while only K Haribabu was the among the chosen lot. Delhi, although they were few in numbers proved their presence. Sonu (55kg) and Ankur (60kg) will go in for the final test.

One each from Kerala, Manipur Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Assam and Odisha made progress in their respective age groups.

In the only women qualifier, Maharashtra’s Kanchi Adwami made it to the final round. Joining her were two athletes from Delhi Jyoti and Mamota Devi Yumnam.
