 Gujarat offers opportunities to the rich and the poor equally
Mumbai, 26thNovember 2018: With the 9th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 fast approaching, the Government of Gujarat led by Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani held the official roadshow for the Summit. Addressing a room filled with key industrialists of the country and senior government officials, Chief Minister Shri Rupani laid out the theme and focus for the 9th edition of the biennial summit, which is ‘Shaping a New India’.
Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani said Vibrant Gujarat has contributed greatly to the overall growth of the state. The Summit was originally conceptualized to rope in investments and build Gujarat’s image as a business friendly destination. Today, the Summit has grown into a knowledge sharing platform, where world leaders deliberate on pressing global issues.The Summit also allows not just Gujarat but other states as well to come together and position India as a lucrative investment destination to the global business community.
Speaking about the humble beginning of Gujarat in 1960 as a semi-arid state, with weak infrastructure and limited industrial exposure, he said that the state fought all odds to become India’s fastest developing state. He also spoke about the connection between Maharashtra and Gujarat, and said the two states together are the drivers of Indian economy.
He added that the policy driven approach of Gujarat government has helped the state provide an extremely conducive environment to the growth of industries in the state and Gujarat now offers ‘Feel of Doing Business,’ apart from Ease of Doing Business.
Chief Secretary, Shri JN Singh spoke of Gujarat’s next phase of development, for which work is already underway. He said that Gujarat is now developing futuristic infrastructure projects such as the Special Investment Regions at Dholera and Mandal-Becharaji; GIFT City; PCPIR; Coastal Economic Zone in Kutchh; Ahmedabad Mumbai Bullet Train as well as India’s first 1 GW offshore wind energy park. The new and upcoming developments such as the Ahmedabad Metro Rail, commercial development on Sabarmati Riverfront, Surat Dream City, and up-gradation of Bus Terminals, are designed to support the next phase of urban development in Gujarat.
Gujarat has set an example for rest of the states of the nation as to how investment opportunities could be explored and employment can be generated by laying proactive policies for investment. Vibrant Gujarat is providing an opportunity for other states to interact with the global business community, which will eventually benefit their state.
Principal Secretary (Industries) Shri MK Das spoke about the business opportunities in the state and about the different initiatives that the government has undertaken for infrastructure development including upgradation of roads, railway networks, ports, power supply, gas and water grids.
Two MoUs in the textile sector were signed by the Principal Secretary Industries, Government of Gujarat with the Intimate Apparel Association of India and Clothing Manufacturers Association of India based in Maharashtra.
Earlier in the day, the Gujarat Chief Minister also held a special one on one meeting with the top executives of key industries and apprised them about investor friendly policies of the State Government and invited them to participate in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
Ahead of the roadshow in Mumbai, the Chief Minister held several one-to-one meetings with the leading industrialists of the city including, Mr. N. Chandrasekaran Chairman of Tata Sons Ltd, Mr. Harsh Goenka Chairman RPG Enterprises, Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani Co-Founder & MD Hiranandani Developers, Mr. B K Goenka Chairman of Welspun Group. He also met with the Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla and with the Mumbai based industrialists who hold deep rooted ties with the State of Gujarat such as Mr. Adi Godrej Chairman of the Godrej Group. Mr. Anand Mahindra Chairman and MD of Mahindra & Mahindra, Mr. Raoul Bajaj CEO of trading giant Trafigura India Pvt. Ltd. also met with the Chief Minister to discuss their investment plans for Gujarat in the coming months.
Senior officers from Government of Gujarat including Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Shri Arvind Agarwal, Industries Commissioner Smt Mamta Verma, MD Industrial Extension Bureau, Resident Commissioner, Government of Gujarat, Aarti Kanwar, Managing Director, iNDEXTb Shri R.K Beniwal were in attendance.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is a biennial event that brings together the who's who of the global business community. For the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit the Government of Gujarat has partnered with Canada, Denmark, Japan, France, Netherlands, South Korea, Thailand, Czech Republic and Uzbekistan.
