“LEADING EYE SURGEON OF INDIA” 

AT THE HANDS OF 

 SMT SMRITI IRANI,

  UNION MINISTER FOR HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA

At the recently concluded District Conference of Rotary International District 3140, Dr Cyres Mehta,eye surgeon, was honored at the hands of Smt Smriti Irani,Union Minister for Human Resource Development ,Government of India.

The Citation reads as,"Dr Cyres Mehta is awarded the Leading Eye Surgeon of India Award   for his outstanding contribution to the field of eye surgery internationally". In his introduction .Mr Saif Qureshi ,organizer of the Conference ,consisting of over 3000 Rotarians  pointed out that Dr Cyres had made a huge contribution to the field  of eye surgery and had lectured worldwide uplifting  the image of Indian Ophthalmology Internationally. In addition Mr Qureshi said that Dr Cyres Mehta was a great Rotarian and an example for the youth of our country having achieved this great honor  at the age of only 43.

Dr Cyres Mehta in his acceptance speech informed the audience of the latest development in cataract surgery available today ,the new Laser cataract system, Catalys which simply melts away the cataract in less than 30 seconds. The melted cataract is very easy to then suck out through a 1.8 mm tunnel and replace with a new generation trifocal lens so that the patient does not need spectacles for near or distance anymore.To add to this no blades are used in this procedure and the laser system itself makes these openings precisely.The patient can actually resume work as early as 2 days.We must all help in nation building said Dr Cyres,and time off spent after surgery is a major drain to the economy. A person being able to recover very fast and be able to go back to his work very soon is an asset to the nation.

Automation affects every facet of our lives today. Cataract surgery can be no different. Using these latest technologies to help people over come their problems like cataract is the triumph of technology over disease .

The audience comprising of 3000 Rotarians from all over the world as well as celebrities appreciated the speech. Dr Cyres Mehta is the surgical chief of the International eye centre behind Taj Mahal Hotel and the President elect of the Rotary Club of Bombay Pier.

Dr Cyres has previously been awarded by Shri RR Patil ,Deputy CM of Maharashtra as the Outstanding Young Indian in 2005 and has also been awarded the Gold Medal of the International Society of Glaucoma surgeons Switzerland as well of the Gold medal of the Egyptian Society of Ophthalmology.
