Grover Vineyards 20th Inter-Club golf

A majority of the leading amateur golfers from Western Indian will parade their golfing skills and vie for their club’s pride and prestige in the 20th Grover Zampa Vineyards Inter-Club Golf Championships, which will tee off at the Willingdon Sports Club on February 13 and 14. Title holders United Services Club (USC) will face a tough challenge ands from the three other clubs in the fray, namely the host club, WSC, Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) and Poona Golf Club, who will all be raring to lay their hands on the coveted trophy, synonymous with golfing supremacy in the state, in this special edition.

The two-day event is the biggest amateur golf event in the state and the only one of its kind in the country and Grover Zampa Vineyards has been associated with this Championship since the last 19 years.
13-year-old Kaurvika Kumar from BPGC, the No.1 lady golfer in Western India leads a bunch of talented youngsters who will feature in this event, the others being Keshav Mishra (4 handicap), Kaustubh Mishra (7 handicap), besides Yash Yadav (7 handicap) from US Club. Khushaal Thackersey (1 handicap), Akshay Khilachand (5 handicap), Rahul Divan (7 handicap) and Jamsheed Mehta (7 handicap) from WSC, Amit Nigam (4 handicap), Arjun Singh (4 handicap) and Tarun Bali (4 handicap) from BPGC and Amish Jaitha (2 handicap), Manish Jaitha (5 handicap), Sanjay Kolhatkar (6 handicap) and Mohit Nakhare (7 handicap) from Poona Golf Club are some of the leading amateur golfers.

The players of the different teams will be donned in T-shirts of their club colors – Red for United Services Club, Yellow for Bombay Presidency Golf Club, Purple for Willingdon Sports Club and Blue for Poona Club.

Speaking at the occasion Mr. Kapil Grover, Chairman, Grover Zampa Vineyard said, “We are pleased to present the 20th edition of the Inter-Club Golf Championship. A round-robin Ryder Cup match play format (on the lines of the mega golf duel between the US and Europe every two years) which involves a great deal of strategizing and team play intensifies the competition to exciting, nervous limits. Each team is represented by 24 players, out of which 21 play on each day. From each club, three players play the singles, three pairs comprise the foursomes and six pairs compete in the four ball match-ups.

Mayor praises the footballing talent of Mumbai as he announces young stars will travel to London

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the names of the successful youngsters on the first day of his trade mission to India. Sadiq was attending the ninth annual finals day of the Mumbai Soccer Challenge and watched a challenge match to win the inaugural Mayor of London Cup.
