New Delhi– India: Amatra Hotels and Resorts, the luxury hospitality brand has initiated a plan to become a zero-waste and sustainable hospitality company in the coming years.

The Malaysia-based luxury hotel chain operator is also looking to implement Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision to eradicate single-use plastic by 2022 in all their properties. It is looking at a reduction of 150 Kg/Year of single-use plastic in Financial Year 2020-21 and with seven properties expected to be added in its portfolio, the total reduction will be about 750 kg of single-use plastic.

Amatra’s vision is to move towards “Zero Waste Concept” which will ensure zero discharge of hotel waste that is hazardous to land, water or air when burnt or buried. Amatra is introducing biodegradable packaging for its in-room amenities in-line with GOI’s initiative against single-use plastic. To ensure there is no food wastage among its properties, the hospitality firm would convert a large amount of food waste into organic manure.
