Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 Corridor

Mumbai, April 11, 2017 – The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC)  announced that it has successfully distributed more than 16,000 saplings under its initiative "Project Neighbourhood". In a span of one month, MMRC – along with the contractors – have distributed these saplings at 25 different locations in seven-civil packages. By placing these plantlets, ‘Project Neighbourhood’ has received an overwhelming response from the Mumbaikars. Some of the key areas are –
Shivaji Park, Dadar
Railway officers’ residents, Badhwar Park
Hutatma Chowk
Directorate of Technical Education
Cama & Albless Hospital, Fort
Vidya Nagari, Kalina
Speaking on the occasion Ms. Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC said, “Project Neighbourhood’ was introduced to support our vision of protecting Mumbai’s environment. We are pleased to announce that we have distributed over 16,000 saplings to provide the green cover for the city. Going forward, we will continue with this initiative through educational institutions and Mumbaikars”.
‘Project Neighbourhood’, a green initiative to donate saplings in the seven-civil packages. The project envisaged distribution of 25,000 saplings and has received overwhelming response from the citizens. This initiative is in addition to the compensatory plantation stipulated by the Tree Authority, Municipal Council of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).
The Tree Authority had identified 3,891 trees at the proposed station locations of the Metro-3 corridor out of which 1,074 trees will be cut and 1,727 trees will be transplanted. As per the norms set by Tree Authority, the MMRC will plant three trees for each tree cut.
