Masina Hospital has launched a helpline for students facing high stress due to examinations. This initiative is part of its activities for World Health Day on April 7, 2017, for which the WHO theme is ‘Depression’.
A large number of students, in order to secure high expectations, commit suicide. There have been many incidents wherein students have committed suicide on exam day and result day. Helpline number "9323618412” will specially cater to Students facing Stress due to Examinations.
Experienced Psychiatrists will be available, 24 by 7, and there will be free counselling provided. This 24x7 service is operational from today and will be attended by the department consultants and will remain operational throughout the exam season, i.e., April and May 2017. The number to call is “9323618412”.
The hospital is well renowned for its Psychiatry Department and is an established training centre for DNB Psychiatry students. The pressures of examination in the ultra-competitive environment can lead to depression and suicidal tendencies. At such times, the parents too are unable to act as a buffer and unwittingly add to the pressure. A helpline, such as this one, focused to give the right guidance and perspective, will be of immense benefit to the students.
In addition, the department plans to visit residential colonies in South Mumbai [covering areas such as Byculla, Mazgaon, J.J. Road, Nagpada and more] to help screen persons suffering from depression due to any cause, followed by providing appropriate therapies.
