OLYMPIC RUNNER, LALITA BABAR TO FLAG-OFF THE 5TH EDITION OF

7000 runners to participate in the 21 km run

Mumbai, September 9, 2016 – PNB MetLife Satara Hill Half Marathon 2016, holder of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the "Most people in a mountain run – single – mountain, to be flagged off by Lalita Babar, Rio Olympics runner. The 5th edition of the popular Satara Half Hill Marathon, sponsored by PNB MetLife‚ among the leading life insurance companies‚ will be held on Sunday‚ 18th September 2016. The event will be flagged off at 6:00 am at Police parade ground by Lalita Babar. Various political leaders from Satara, dignitaries from PNB MetLife and Honorary members of Mandesh Foundation are scheduled to be present at the event.

This year, 7000 runners have registered for the 21 km run including internationally renowned runners from Uthopia, Kenya, Finland, and Germany amongst others. 1600 runners from Satara have registered for the Marathon, which is twice the number of participants from the city last year. The association has also organized a 3.5 km ‘Dhamaal Run’ for families wherein 3000 participants have registered to run with their young daughters on their shoulders. This fun run is organized to convey the message of ‘Beti koi bojh nahi’ as a message against female feticide.

PNB MetLife Satara Hill Half Marathon is recognised by the IAAF (International Amateur Athletic Federation). It is one of the few Marathon events in the country to have the distinction of being a member of the AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance races). The 21 KM half-marathon is organized by Marathon Association Satara, a Non-Profit Organisation in association with PNB MetLife. It is held in the scenic ghats of Sahyadri Mountains in Satara region of Maharashtra, providing the runners a challenging but an adrenaline-pumping experience.
