Women Empowerment- a Priority at Nutriorg

by Shrutee K/DNS

The word gender describes the socially-constructed roles and responsibilities that societies consider appropriate for men and women. Women's empowerment is a critical aspect for achieving gender equality. A woman's sense of self-worth, her decision-making power, her access to opportunities and resources, her power and control over her own life inside and outside the home, and her ability to effect change. But mostly importantly the actions and attitudes of men play an essential role in achieving this equality. Even if women comprise more than 50% of the world's population, they only own 1% of the world's wealth.

Across the world, women and girls perform long hours of unpaid domestic work. They are kept aloof from the organised sector and their labor is not considered equal with that of the men. In most rural areas women cannot or are not allowed to rise above the social stigma and thus fall prey to serious discrimination encompassing all aspects including wages and work hours. This is where Nutriorg intervened with a vision to bring about a revolutionary change in this typical attitude that the society holds towards women in a small village named Barnagar, Paota (90 kms from Jaipur).

According to Shri.Karn Singh Tomar, Founder Director, Rattan Organic Foods Pvt. Ltd.," Our efforts might be a drop in the ocean but every drop of water builds an ocean! At Nutriorg our goal is not only to serve the consumer needs of the society but also uplift the status of women and bring them to an equal pedestal that men very effortlessly enjoy. Nutriorg’s mission is very little in the commercial line and has always undermined the concept of women falling victim to any form of discrimination in their employment programs. Nutriorg farming projects are not only sustainable but create job opportunities in rural areas as well, empowering women and locals to be a part of this revolution. More than 80% of the total employee count working in the Nutriorg projects are women". Nutriorg has worked meticulously towards providing its female employees with the apt job ethics and building a job friendly mindset in the minds of the villagers who were completely aloof from working in kind of organized sector earlier. Gradually their inhibitions were shed and they were brought into a systematic framework so that they can give their best efforts towards their work and eventually the organization. We work systematically towards preparing and training the staff who are to join us as well as the existing staff simultaneously empowering them and coordinating with them smoothly to provide them complete job satisfaction. This particular part of women training and empowerment is spearheaded by a dedicated department looked after by the very laudable Ms Purnima Raghav. She has put in considerable amount of time in generating a conducive working environment for women at Nutriorg’s workspaces.

Her unwavering dedication towards the effective counseling of the staff is applause worthy.  The enterprise never believes in the hierarchical gap between the higher management and the employees. Women are not subjected to any kind of bias when it comes to job responsibilities and wages. Women work shoulder to shoulder with everyone else in the manufacturing units without any kind of compromise in quality.  They are equally content with their position and feel more empowered than ever.
They are the same women who couldn't even take minor family decisions two years back let alone be the bread earner of the family. With proper training and motivation they have had a nimble growth towards intertwining all barriers at the small endeavors of our enterprise. We are anxious to take these baby steps to a mammoth sized intensity to send out strong ripples across the globe! We are determined to provide that pedestal to our mothers, sisters and wives on whom they can step into an egalitarian world.
