General -
Asian Packaging Federation
Prof N C Saha, Director Indian
Institute of Packaging has taken over as the Secretary General, Asian Packaging
Federation(APF).The
APF, a non-profit organization, established in Tokyo in 1967, unites the
packaging interests of all trade and industries in the Asia-Pacific region and
beyond under one co-operative umbrella.With this, the Executive Office of
the APF will operate from India for a year.
Accepting the honour, Prof. N C Saha
said, I am proud that India has got this opportunity. I am taking over from my
august predecessor, Mrs.Uraiwan,Thailand and will serve as the Secretary Gerenal for a
period of 4 years.
IIP India is the 6th
largest packaging market in the world expected to grow to the 4th
largest market in the world with sales of around USD $43.7 billion by 2016.
The packaging industry has linkages
with FMCG, logistics, Shipping, Printing Plastics and White Goods among others.
On an issue basis, packaging impacts the environment, health, safety,
innovation, aesthetics, quality, economics, consumer convenience
etc.
APF actively
organizes Asia Star Awards and Asian Packaging Congress annually. Besides
regular events, it also provides packaging education to our member countries and
industries.
The
objective of the federation is to enhance cross-country cooperation among all
packaging-related bodies, covering a gamut of subjects like training and
education, package development, environmental aspects, law and
regulations.The APF
has as its members, Australia, Bangladesh,
China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore,
Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

term residential courses available as Govt. facilitated exchange programs with
