Awards Announced in Mumbai
The most sought after social enterprise recognition in India - the Sankalp Social
Enterprise Awards announced winners in 5 high-impact sectors.
These
are enterprises that work across India to create impact in the areas of
healthcare,energy (renewable), technology for development and
agri businesses.
These awards were
given at the Sankalp Forum, the largest aggregation of social enterprises in the
world; at the Renaissance Powai, Mumbai.
The Winners for
2013 were Barrix Agro Sciences in the Agriculture, Food & Rural Business
category,Green Power
Systems in the Clean
Energy/Technology category,Best First Step
Education/IQST in the Education
& Vocational Trainingcategory, Banka
Bio Loo in the Healthcare, Water &
Sanitation category and Awaz De in
the Technology for
Development.
Awaz De also won the Sankalp-Artha Grand prize of USD 40,000, being jointly chosen by Prakash Bakshi Chairman Nabard,William Hammink, the Mission Director of USAID/India and Sunil Kaushal,Regional Chief Executive, India & South Asia, Standard Charted.
InVenture won the
second edition of DFID Samridhi-Sankalp Recognition for Women Empowerment. The
winner was felicated by Parveen Amanullah, Bihar's Minister of Social Welfare and
received a cash grant of INR 5 Lakh.
Sakhi Unique Rural
Enterprises won The Sankalp Forum and the Global Alliance for
Clean Cookstoves Sankalp
AllianceAward for
Innovation in Clean Cooking Solutions.Sakhi received a cash grant of USD
15,000 along with the opportunity to be considered for theAllianceSpark
Fund.

from over 30 countries thronged the Sankalp Forum this year,
including USAID, IFC,
Village Capital, Villgro, Department of Industrial Development, (DFID, UK)ࠇIZ
(Deutsche
Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)) , Akshaya Patra,
Deshpande Foundation, Ashoka Singapore Advisory Council, Legatum and several
other stakeholders in the social enterprise space.
Day
one of the Sankalp Forum hosted the G-20 Inclusive Business Workshop.The event
marked the Asia leg of the G20 Inclusive Business Workshop series, and was
organised by the Governments of Germany and Saudi Arabia, as co-facilitators of
the G20 Pillar private Investment and Job Creations. At the event were Ms Susanne Dorasil from the
German Ministry of Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ), Amitava
Chattopadhyay Chaired Professor of Marketing & Innovation, INSEAD,
SahbaSobhani, Acting Programme Manager, Business Call to Action, UNDP.
Aparajita Agrawal,
Director Sankalp Forum stated, at Intellecap started the Sankalp awards to
discover and recognize the best social enterprise models.Since 2009, we have
sourced over 450 social enterprises, enabled 200 mentoring connections and
facilitated over USD 120Mn of equity investments into more than 30
enterprises.We congratulate this year's winners and look forward to continuing
our work to find and support high potential social enterprises with a special
focus on low income and North Eastern states of India this
year.
