Bank of Maharashtra opens a new Rural Branch in A. Kalappur,
District Shivganaga, Chennai at the Hands of Hon. Finance Minister
Bank of Maharashtra opened its 1856th
Branch at A. Kalappur, District Sivaganga, Chennai Zone on 29.09.2013. The
branch was inaugurated by Hon. Union Finance Minister, Shri. P. Chidambaram in
the presence of Shri Narendra Singh, Chairman & Managing Director along
with Shri C. VR. Rajendran & Shri. R. Athmaram, EDs and other Directors and
top management executives of the Bank at A. Kalappur.
In his
welcome address Shri. Narendra Singh, Chairman & Managing Director gave
brief introduction about the Bank and said that the bank serves a large number
of Agriculturists, Traders, SME borrowers, and is known as “Aam Admi ka Bank”
which means “Common man’s Bank””.

Chidambaram, Hon. Union Minister of Finance said that Bank of Maharashtra is a
nationalized bank, which is opening more branches in Rural & Urban centers
in Tamil Nadu. He appreciated the efforts of Bank in opening a branch in the
village of A.Kalappur, where there is no bank as of now. He quoted a proverb in
Tamil which says that people should not reside in a village where there is no
temple and in the current scenario, this proverb has been modified by Self Help
Groups (SHG) that people should not reside in a place where there is no bank.
During the
function, Cheque for four education loans, 2 agriculture loans, a term loan for
Gramavidiyal Trust (MFI) were distributed to the beneficiaries by Shri. P
Chidambaram, Hon. Union Minister of Finance. He also handed over the
Photocopier machine to the Headmaster of Govt Higher Secondary School at A.
Kalappur on behalf of Bank of Maharashtra as a Donation under Corporate Social
Responsibility.

The total number of branches in
Chennai Zone increased to 44 and total numbers of branches are 33 in Tamil Nadu
state. Bank has its branch/ATM network spread all over the country with 1856
branches and 886 ATMs covering 28 states and 2 Union Territories with total
business of Rs. 2.00 Lakh crore. Bank has proposed to increase its branch
network to 2000 during current Financial Year 2013-14.
