Royal Strikers make bright winning start

Mumbai, June 28: Royal Strikers powered by some steady play from seasoned campaigners Alok Kumar and Sourav Kothari made a bright winning start defeating Saffron Army 3-1 in the opening Pool-A match of the Rs 20 lakh prize money inaugural LIC-Snooker Premier League, which commenced at the Garware Club House on from Tuesday morning.
Earlier the tournament was inaugurated by Shri Ravi Kumar, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC India, Mumbai Division, who made some perfect pots to set the balls rolling. Also present was Smt. Sangeeta Parab, Sales Manager, LIC India, Mumbai Division and Derrick Sippy and Devendra Joshi, joint honorary secretaries, BSAM.
Kothari, the costliest player in the competition, lived up to his reputation by scoring an authoritative 2-0 win against AshutoshPadhy in the 15-reds game to level the scores at 1-all after his teammate Hasan Badami had lost the first 6-reds game going down to Pushpendra Singh by an identical 0-2 margin. Later, team owner cum player NishantDossa in the company of current IBSF world billiards champ ArantxaSanchis won the doubles game defeating the Saffron Army combination of KarthikJhaveri and SaumilKarkera 55-25 to give strikers a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth game, Alok put to great advantage his vast experience as he came from behind to overcome Anuj Uppal 2-1 6-red game and clinch the issue in Strikers favour.
In another Group-A match, SPG Dark Knights were taken the distance before getting the better of UNNICA Challengers by a 3-2 margin while Satrangi Squad prevailed over Ottoman Army by a similar 3-2 scoreline in a Group-B encounter.

Subramanian lost to AmeeKamani/Nalin Patel 58-68 (doubles), Shivam Arora bt R. Girish 2-0 (48-8, 31-9 – 6reds), Kamal Chawla bt Faisal Khan 102(59)-5).
Group – B:Satrangi Squad beat Ottoman Army 3-2 : J.
