Mumbai: July 16, 2018: Two Wheels of Hope is a high impact social empowerment project by the Mentors Foundation, in association with the Tata Trusts and Pawar Public Charitable Trust. Recently 5,700 bicycles were distributed to girls of 6th to 12th standard in Government aided schools across Pune district (Daund-Indapur). One of the key reasons this project was initiated, was due to inadequate options for safe and timely transportation, for girls in Maharashtra to travel to school and back.
Shri. Sharad PawarJi, Member of the RajyaSabha and Smt. Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament from the Baramati constituency were present, and distributed the bicycles to the children. Mr.R Venkataramanan, Managing Trustee of Tata Trusts also graced the occasion.
In the month of July, a total of 10,000+ cycles will be donated in the district of Pune, Maharashtra. The event that witnessed 5,700 cycles being donated will also go down as the single largest donation across the world, in 24 hours. The team behind ‘Two Wheels of Hope’ has also applied to the Guinness book of World Records in this specific category. The same will be confirmed after submitting the necessary documents and details, post the successful completion of the event. TI Cycles has been at the vanguard of this venture by providing the unsurpassed girls bicycles under the popular brand, BSA. BSA girls bicycles are built keeping in consideration all aspects of comfort that are needed for young girl riders travelling long distances.
Speaking on this momentous occasion, Mr. M.M. Murugappan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa Group, said “It gives us great happiness to be part of the bicycle bank project along with Two Wheels of Hope. To offer freedom and security through cycles resonates with our own brand, BSA’s mission of offering mobility, freedom and independence to young girls. I am happy we have been able to do our part to ensure these girls are getting an education and building a secure future for themselves.”
