Shama styling tips come handy for Baal Veer

Shama Sikander is a fashionista and even has her own fashion label. A little birdie told us that her designing skills came handy during the shoot of her new show Baal Veer on SAB TV. Her suggestions and her attention to detail got the elaborate costumes to be more comfortable, not just for her but for all her fellow actors.

Baal Veer is a fantasy show with extravagant and intricate costumes that weigh around 25kgs each and it is not just the clothes but even the jewellery the actors adorn that seriously heavy. It has taken almost a month and a half for the show designer Neeru Shah and the producer Vipul Shah of Optimystix to come up with various colour palettes for every character and design their costumes accordingly. The designer Neerusha along with Tuba & Mani had to design over 200 costumes to begin with, for more than 30 different characters.

Vipul Shah of Optimystix says, the biggest challenge was to make every character look different and yet look like they are from the same family. It is a colossal production and as producer I wanted the resources to be used wisely. We researched extensively and I was picky about all that would fit the genre and what would seem out of place. We wanted the set and the fairies to be distinct so they can be easily recognised and leave a lasting impression in the viewer's mind.

The designer of the show has used various fabrics ranging from delicate crepes and chiffons to the thick fabrics used for making curtains and mattresses. Neeru, the designer also informs us that she has gone to the extent of using wood-shavings and fevicol on cotton to experiment with textures. Details were picked up after referring to fables, fairytale books, international fashion and even Hollywood fantasy films. What makes these costumes exclusive and unique is this detailing and texturing.But this is what makes the costumes heavy and uncomfortable at times too.

Commenting on the same, Mr. Anooj Kapoor, EVP and Business Head, SAB TV said, Anything distinct or peculiar will instantly catch your eye. Baal Veer is unparalleled in just the same way. It is a fantasy show on a very large scale and there was scope to experiment with the sets and the costumes much as we wanted."

Over the years, there has been a proliferation of production aids with a significant advancement in costumes and production design. Sab TV has left no stone unturned in making the most of everything available. Baal Veer is as big as it gets.
