Mumbai, November 18, 2016: Understanding the need for a ready-reckoner of nutritional recipes for cancer patients, Boehringer Ingelheim India in association with Times Group launched ‘Fight Cancer with Flavour’, a special Cookbook for Cancer patients last week.
The book was launched at Crossword, Kemps Corner with the authors: Gitanjali Gurbaxani, Renowned Food consultant and Devika Bhojwani, Vice President, The Women’s Cancer Initiative, Tata Memorial Hospital who shared insights about how cancer bacteria takes over patient’s eating habits and suggested ways to overcome such conditions.
Cancer can have an enormous impact on the patient and their caregivers. The associated strenuous treatment drains the patient of his physical, mental and emotional being, affecting body's ability to tolerate certain foods and utilize the nutrients. Constipation, Vomiting, Nausea and loss of appetite and taste are common symptoms which prevent them from eating properly. As a result, the body’s strength and nutrition levels dip drastically.
With a view to create ease for patients as well as for the caregivers, Boehringer Ingelheim India in association with Times Group came up with a book that has healthy combinations of commonly available ingredients, bringing out some healthier eating options available to the patients.
Mr. Sharad Tyagi, Managing Director, Boehringer Ingelheim India said “The book ‘Fight Cancer with Flavour’ is an initiative to create awareness about importance of correct diet in cancer management. This book is developed keeping in mind cancer patient’s palate and provide cancer patients and caregivers access to healthy recipes that enhance patients nutritional levels and benefit them.”
“Cancer patients often struggle with compromised-immunity and their appetite is severely affected. Body tolerance to different foods reduces, cutting down on most of the important nutrients. Eating the right kinds of food before, during and after treatment can help a patient stay stronger and healthier. The book ‘Fight Cancer with Flavour’, is a result of our hard work and attempt to help patients fighting with cancer to rejuvenate their appetite, giving them healthier reasons to eat.” said Gitanjali Gurbaxani, Renowned Food Consultant and Author, Fight Cancer with Flavour.
Leading Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s mother, Mrs. Shabnam Singh strongly advocates the Cookbook and has shared her experience of how she helped her son successfully fight out cancer with nutritional food recipes.
India’s leading Clinical nutritionist Dr. Swati Bharadwaj, one of the key contributors of the Cookbook, addressed cancer patients and their caregivers on food choices, dietary supplements and physical activity to help improve quality of life and survival.\
