Maheshwari impresses to advance into two semi-finals

Mumbai, November 20: Aditya Maheshwari enjoyed a successful day with quarter-finals wins in the men’s singles and men’s 35+ singles events of the Indian Squash Professional (ISP) organised Rs two lakh prize-money JVPG-SRAM Winter Squash Open 2016, sponsored by SYSKA LED and played at Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club. This is the 125th tournament to be conducted by ISP.
Maheshwari, the joint 3-4 seed in the men’s competition showed exemplary fighting qualities and great skills to ward off the spirited challenge from Puneet Pareek and to carve out a deserving 8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7, 14-12 win to advance to the semi-final.
Earlier, the top seeded Mahaeshwari also progressed to the last four round of men’s 35+ event. He faced quite a fight from Sachin Jadhav before pulling through in three tough games winning at 11-7, 11-9, 11-8.
In other men’s singles quarter-final action, second seed Abhishek Agarwal also booked his place in the semi-final by defeating Karan Mirchandani 11-3 11-9 11-8.
Meanwhile, Amitpal Singh Kohli joined Maheshwari in the semi-final round of the men’s singles 35+ category. Kohli had things much under control and defeated Harjinder Singh in three games at 11-4, 11-9, 11-8.
