Intel India trains 9500 developers students & professors across 90 organizations

Bengaluru, India, October 9, 2017 – Intel India hosted its Cloud Developer Day, to share insights on how businesses can gain from their cloud deployments in the fast evolving hyper-connected world. The company used the platform to highlight progress on its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy for the country, and to showcase success stories wherein organizations in India are using AI to stay ahead of the curve.

The event, attended by more than 400 developers, enabled them to understand how Intel® architecture is providing the compute power to some of the most critical AI initiatives in India, so businesses can accelerate solutions, automate operations, gather better insights – and make smarter decisions on the cloud.

Raghavendra HM, Data Scientist at DataLore Labs*, a Bangalore based Predictive Modeling and Natural Language Processing company, elaborated on how their company delivers the stock price prediction algorithm, using TensorFlow and Intel® Nervana™ DevCloud powered by the Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors. Dr. KV Subramaniam, Professor, Cloud Computing and Big Data Center, and Savitha Murthy, Assistant Professor, PES University*, delved into how the institute is using the Intel® Nervana™ DevCloud and the NxtGen* cloud offering to run deep learning algorithms. Tarun Dua, CEO and Founder at E2E Networks* highlighted how the company is working with Intel India to enable the cloud agnostic future of AI, for its customers.

Prakash Mallya, Managing Director – Sales & Marketing Group, Intel India, said “In April this year, we made a commitment at the India AI Day, to democratize AI in the country by training 15,000 developers, and engage with not just businesses, but also the government and academia to enable the adoption of this increasingly talked about technology. Today, after six months, we can proudly say that we have worked with 9500 developers, students, and professors, across 90 organizations to ensure that India is not only AI ready but already delivering results.”

As a part of its commitment to boost adoption of AI here, Intel India collaborated with 40 academic institutions that are using the technology for scientific research, and 50 public and private organizations across e-commerce, healthcare, technology, defence, and banking & financial services that are reducing AI entry barriers for developers, data scientists, and students through developer focused events, and Code Modernization workshops.

The Cloud Developer Day also included a hands-on workshop for the developers sharing general principles of deep learning, a walkthrough NxtGen’s Developer Cloud, and provided them with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with Intel® Optimized Caffe* and TensorFlow*.

In September this year, Intel announced the Intel® Nervana™ DevCloud, a cloud-hosted hardware and software platform for developers, data scientists, researchers, academics and startups to learn, sandbox and accelerate development of AI solutions with free compute cloud access powered by Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. By providing compute resources for machine learning and deep learning training and inference compute needs, Intel is enabling users to start exploring AI innovation without making their own investments in compute resources up front.
