UBM India -- INTERMODAL INDIA 2012


INTERMODAL INDIA 2012, organized by UBM India Pvt. Ltd, is a unique event that is taking place for the first time in India from 25-27 September 2012. The three day-exhibition with concurrent conference was inaugurated on September 25th 2012 at the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.  It is one of the definitive integrated thought leadership events covering international trade, logistics, transportation and cargo handling.
The event was inaugurated by notable dignitaries from the industry including Mr. G. Chaukiyal, Member Operations, Airports Authority of India ,  Mr. S. Hajara, CMD Shipping Corporation of India , Mr. Vipul Mittra Principal Secretary Civil Aviation Department, Govt. of Gujarat , Ms. Jayashree Mukherjee, Dy. Chairperson Inland Waterways Authority of India , Mr. Anil Gupta, MD, CONCOR,  Capt. Ajay Chauhan Director, Civil Aviation Department of Govt. of Gujarat,  Mr. N.N. Kumar, Dy. Chairman, JNPT along with Sanjeev Khaira, MD for UBM.
Apart from the exhibit, the event will also see a host of knowledge sharing sessions conducted in association with experts from different fields in the logistics industry. The seminar will address trends, opportunities, challenges, and overall outlook of this sector. They key speakers presented their thoughts on Effective intermodal integration, Air cargo handling and Cold chain management etc.
Speaking at the event Mr. Sanjeev Khaira- Managing Director of UBM said, “The logistics industry is moving across the globe and is going through a paradigm shift in its operations. Thanks to the era of globalization, trade and widespread distribution are becoming highly profitable activities and companies in the world over are increasingly focusing on improving distribution and logistics to create a competitive advantage. Intermodal India 2012 aims at fulfilling the increasing need felt in the logistics industry both in India and abroad for a common platform to come together and deliberate on the prospects in the booming logistics Industry in this country. It is an opportunity for the delegates to interact with the key players of the industry from all over the world about the immense business possibilities in the emerging Indian logistics industry.”
In India road has become the predominant mode of transportation of freight cargo. Estimate of the modal movement of cargo highlights that in India nearly 61% of the cargo is moved by road, 30% by rail and rest by airway, pipelines and inland waterways. This is as compared to a 37% share of road in the USA and 22% in China.
