2016:
Twenty of India’s most devoted road trippers has embarked on a 12-day long
adventure through north India, Myanmar and Thailand.
Setting
out from Manipur, convoy-style in 5 four-wheel-drives, these travel enthusiasts
will roar through Myanmar on the India-Myanmar Friendship Road before crossing
through to Tak in Thailand and finishing in the City of Angels, Bangkok. Highlights of the journey, besides the
adrenaline rush and beautiful landscape all along the way, are the exhilaration
of crossing international borders, the pagoda-studded town of Bagan, fishing at
Lake Inle and of course celebrating all of these experiences in Bangkok.
Their
backs may tire but their eyes surely wont The landscape outside their windows
will include rice paddies, thick forests, 46 narrow wooden and iron bridges
built during World War 2 (all within a distance of 100 km), hilly terrain
riddled with dust and curves besides villages and towns.
They’ve
been promised a host of treats in Myanmar: Football in the empty streets of
half-occupied Nay Pyi Daw in Myanmar, a meal which will allow them to drool
over a variety of Myanmar’s sauces with its rice noodles (and roasted crickets
for the daring!), a potential visit to the White Elephant Zoo in Yangon and a
Golden Rock in Kyaiktiyo.
Amazing
Thailand will keep to its brand-promise by welcoming the band of explorers with
its beautiful rain forests. They will drive through a few towns and villages,
taking in Thailand’s unbelievable variety of sights and sounds before reaching Bangkok
for a bedazzling rooftop celebration. Participants are to be welcomed by the
Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Soraya
Homchuen, director, TAT Mumbai says, “I hope this paves the way for many adventurous
Indians to take a road trip to Thailand. Especially among youngsters, the idea
of a road trip is very exciting and in fact very trendy at the moment, so I
think that this is going to be the first among many adventures to be taken by
many more adventurers.”
Vikram
Ahuja, CEO, Byond Travel adds, “We are proud to be associated with the first
ever planned expedition on the India-Myanmar Friendship Road. It is truly
encouraging to see this new breed of travellers who are undertaking a more
experience-based form of seeing the world. This certainly marks a new wave of
travel, especially out of India. At one point, we were seeing more than 200
queries a day!”
