Ashley Lobo Stands up for Women’s Safety

Danceworx trains 100 Underprivileged boys for a Flash Mob

Mumbai: Standing strong for Gender Equality and Women’s Safety  , 100 boys from Mumbai based NGO, The Little League, have collaborated with Ashley Lobo’s Danceworx to perform a flash mob at the Andheri Metro Station in Mumbai.

The Little League works with children from economically weak backgrounds and seeks to facilitate holistic development. One of the ways in which TLL influences the children it works with, is by educating them of the social evils that plauge our society. To this end, the NGO, in association with Lamiya Bagasrawala, a renowned child psychologist, have conducted a series of workshops highlighting the mental, emotional and intellectual strengths of women. The aim of this project was to showcase the importance of gender equality and encouraging the empowerment of women to a country’s growth and progress. The workshops then culminated in over 100 boys coming together and conducting a flash mob to spread awareness regarding the issue. The flash mob was choreographed by renowned choreographer Ashley Lobo’s team. Having carved a niche for himself in India and overseas with his training style and in-depth understanding of performing arts, he extended his craft for a social cause.

Using the peppy and upbeat song “Sound of Freedom” by Bob Sinclair, Ashley’s team got these Little Leaguers to magically express themselves and spread their message through dance. Ashley Lobo commented saying, “It is really unfortunate that even in this day and age a woman in India can feel so unsafe walking on the street. India has been named as one of the most unsafe countries in the world for women and that is very upsetting. I feel if we can create awareness and teach young boys at an early age how to respect all women, it will hopefully create a different world for the next generation. Through this event with The Little League, we hope to do exactly that. And sharing this message through a flash mob will help us reach a larger audience too and we hope they enjoy the celebration of this message as well.”

Lobo has been known for looking at the bigger picture, in every endeavour he undertakes. This flash mob will help create awareness amongst little boys and their audiences alike, while sending out an extremely powerful message.
