Volkswagen Pune Plant

Plant in Chakan. Since the inception of Visitor Service in September 2011, this facility gained instant popularity. Over 7300 students, groups from various corporate organisations, NGOs, guests of Volkswagen employees and international delegates have experienced these plant visits.

The plant visits cover Body Shop and Assembly along with an overview of Press shop and Paint shop. In the Body shop, key processes like Roof Laser Welding and Inline Measurement System are covered, whereas in Assembly, Cockpit assembly and the Engine-Chassis Marriage are the highlights for the visitors. Tailor-made plant visits have been designed to cater to the various types of visitors. The Volkswagen Pune Plant visits are conducted in Marathi, Hindi, English and German last for about an hour.
Sumita Murmu, a 13 year old class 8 student of Sri Sri Vidya Mandir, Jharkhand was the 10,000th visitor and was gifted a miniature model of Volkswagen Polo by Mr Andreas Lauenroth, Plant Head and Technical Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited on this occasion. He said,

“Having the 10,000th visitor in just over a year shows the interest of a wide range of public in visiting our automotive manufacturing facility. It is indeed a pleasure to showcase our commitment and passion towards making world class cars. These visits have helped us in strengthening our image which is that of a top automotive manufacturer.”

Accompanying the students from Jharkhand was Mr N L Tewari, Art of Living Foundation volunteer, who expressed his gratitude to Volkswagen for providing an opportunity to these students to visit the world-class Volkswagen facility in Chakan. He said, “Our students are from the rural areas of Jharkhand and this experience of knowing how a car is made from scratch will be a memorable one. I thank Volkswagen for providing these underprivileged children an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Alexander Skibbe, Head of Volkswagen Group India Communications said, “The Visitor Service is helping in building strong relationships of the people with our brand and is supporting the marketing activities of Volkswagen India. With gaining interest in plant visits from the visitors, we designed different programmes for different target groups. Through this service we aimed at educating more and more people about our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and the 10,000th visitor shows that we have been on the right path.”
