Mumbai: Whistling Woods recently announced its foray into the online education space with the Whistling Woods Virtual Academy (WWVA) in the presence of actor Hrithik Roshan, who formally launched the WWVA.
The WWVA is Whistling Woods’ e-learning platform, where WWI will make available web-based courses in multiple areas of Film, TV, Communication, Animation and other Media Arts. The courses will be combination of audio-visual playback, online and offline interactions with faculty as needed and online and offline assignments. The courses have intentionally been kept flexible to enable students to learn at their own pace, given their other commitments, irregular availability of time, and other constraints.
This pioneering venture makes Whistling Woods the first institute in India to announce a online film-making course.
The WWVA will commence classes in July-August 2013 with admissions being opened by the first week of February 2013 for a 1-yr Certificate course in Film-making (Online). Students will undergo a rigorous and thorough curriculum designed by Whistling Woods faculty and includes some of the best names in the Indian film industry. They will also be allowed access to some of the famed Whistling Woods master-classes as well as experience both online and offline expert guidance by industry heads, as needed. The platform these courses are based on is the globally renowned ‘Coursemill’.
Subhash Ghai, Chairman of Whistling Woods International, stated “It’s a great honour for Whistling Woods to announce its Virtual Academy. This is just one of our steps towards global expansion with more to come. With the WWVA, we also make a bold statement that Whistling Woods is here to stay with a bright future ahead and that our commitment to film & media education, which goes beyond the existing campus of Whistling Woods is absolute. Whistling Woods will continue forever, in multiple locations, multiple campuses and online as well.”
Hrithik Roshan said, “My visit here today was such a thrill, such a surprise, I was almost baffled by the amount of infrastructure that exists in this space. The kind of technical education that the students are getting here is invaluable. What Whistling Woods is doing is invaluable and so inspiring that I would want to be a part of something like this. It is such an amazing service and such an amazing way to give back. I will never forget my interaction with students. There should be a Halo around Whistling Woods and the sanctity of this place should never be contaminated. It should exist in its purity and create a generation that will come out from here inspired and that will go on a long way in shaping the world of tomorrow. That is the natural progression in all ways, in a creative way and I am leaving this place proud today.”
Meghna Ghai – Puri, President, Whistling Woods International, commented, “Whistling Woods has taken great strides to fulfill the film industry’s need for trained professional talent. The WWVA has been a long time in the making. We are very proud to finally be opening doors for aspirants to imbibe creative education at their own time and pace. The announcement of the WWVA comes on the heels of our recent tie-ups with Bradford College, UK and Trend Media City, Nigeria, to set up campuses in the UK & Nigeria, and is a further step in our commitment to the sectors of film and media education.”
