May 19, 2016: Tourism Trinidad & Tobago recently hosted a Familiarisation Trip (FAM) for a group of prominent Indian journalists from May 7-14, as part of it’s on-going initiative to promote Trinidad and Tobago as a holiday destination.  Tourism Trinidad & Tobago aims to capitalise on India being one of the fastest-growing tourist-generating countries in the world and grow the number of Indian visitors to the twin-island destination.
The five journalists who travelled to Trinidad & Tobago as part of this FAM trip represented a cross-section of the Indian travel and lifestyle media.  They spent 4 days in Trinidad before continuing on to Tobago where they spent 3 days, all making for a thrilling experience on the two islands. The aim of the familiarisation visit was to build awareness about the many things to see and do in Trinidad and Tobago. The FAM gave the journalists an opportunity  to experience some of T&T’s most popular eco and soft adventure tourism activities such as a “Trini River Lime”, North Coast tour to Maracas Beach, the Angostura Rum distillery tour, Yerette’s Humming Bird Sanctuary, Hanuman Murti and Temple in the Sea and the Caroni Bird Sanctuary.  In Tobago, they experienced the cruise to No Man’s Land and a glass-bottomed boat ride through Buccoo Reef to explore the spectacular underwater life, Nylon Pool, Cotton Bay, Snorkeling and the Tobago Coco Plantations.  The FAM also allowed the journalists to experience the unique sights of the beautiful leatherback turtles nesting along the northeast coast of Trinidad at Matura, which is one of the best turtle watching beaches and draws the largest percentage of eco-tourists visiting the country annually.
Huzan Fraser Motivala, India Representative, Tourism Trinidad & Tobago said, “Trinidad and Tobago is a wonderful destination for honeymooners and families. The proximity of these two islands to North America, the no visa requirement for Indians and the opportunity to experience the true Caribbean flavour also makes this twin-island destination an ideal add-on destination for Indian travellers to the USA and Canada. We hope that this FAM trip will help our journalists provide a credible source of information for people planning a vacation to T&T.”
About Trinidad & Tobago : Trinidad & Tobago is located in the southeastern region of the Caribbean. With its careful approach to tourism, the dual-island nation offers a distinct blend of culture, eclectic cuisine and an assortment of eco-adventure activities. Trinidad, the ‘cultural capital of the Caribbean,’ is home to the world famous Carnival and the birthplace of the steel pan, the only new musical instrument to be invented in the 20th century. It is also home to one of the world’s top three nesting sites for endangered leatherback turtles and world class fine flavoured cocoa.  Tobago, sister island to Trinidad, is the quintessential Caribbean paradise with secluded beaches, quaint villages, private villas and award-winning eco-attractions that include the Main Ridge Rainforest, the oldest protected reserve in the western hemisphere and the six-time award winner for World’s Leading Ecotourism Destination by the World Travel Awards.
