Glakson hat-trick helps Catholic Gymkhana win

Mumbai, December 20: Sharp shooter Glakson Mascarenhas notched up a fine hat-trick which enabled Catholic Gymkhana turn over a 0-2 deficit to put it across Sporting Options 3-2 in a lively Second Division play-off match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2015-2016, and played at the Goan Sports Association ground, Cross Maidan on Sunday.

Sporting Options got off to a great start and took an early lead through Salil Pereira’s goal in te 8thminute before Rohan Luhera doubled the lead with a strike in the 30th minute as they went into the break with a healthy advantage.However, after the change of ends, Catholic Gymkhana returned with renewed vigour and a charged up Mascarenhas who showed good opportunism. Mascarenhas cashed in on the chances that came his way to score three successive goals in the 48th minute, 55th minute and 68th minute to snatch a crucial win for the team. 

Results – Div-II (play-off): Catholic Gymkhana 3 (Glakson Mascarenhas 3) beat Sporting Options 2 (Salil Pereira, Rohan Luhera).

Mayor praises the footballing talent of Mumbai as he announces young stars will travel to London

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the names of the successful youngsters on the first day of his trade mission to India. Sadiq was attending the ninth annual finals day of the Mumbai Soccer Challenge and watched a challenge match to win the inaugural Mayor of London Cup. He confirmed that, for the first time in the scheme’s nine-year history, two girls as well as two boys will be heading to London.
