Mumbai December 17th, 2015: In the most devastating floods since the last 100 years
that hit the state of Tamilnadu, there was massive flooding that paralyzed the
state. VIBHA, a US- based NGO (with a presence in India) for the education
of children has gone beyond their parameters and extended their hands to
support the relief of victims of Tamilnadu
floods by not just funding programs, but also ensuring the activities for their
relief.
VIBHA has so far disbursed over $38,000 (Rs. 25
lacs) in funds till date. These efforts will support over 400 families covering 8 villages
in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu and provide them with food,
water, medicine and other basic amenities. VIBHA’s rescue, relief and
rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the devastating floods in
Tamilnadu are in full momentum. VIBHA has made loud appeals to support their
efforts and even the iconic people in India like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan,
Dr. Subhash Chandra, and Ronnie Screwvala helped to spread awareness of
their efforts only to get more support for the victims. Their tweets made a lot
of difference.
VIBHA is getting
requests from their partner projects on the ground for help and they are
evaluating them to extend the maximum support. VIBHA is open to joining
hands with anybody in helping the people in need for immediate relief followed
by rehabilitation. People can donate or setup a pledge drive to raise funds to
support the flood-hit people in need.
VIBHA, (www.vibha.org) founded in 1991 is a volunteer driven
organization of 2200 volunteers spread across 18 Action Centers in US and
India. Till date, they have raised and funded $13 million to support 250
projects and reached out to 300,000 children. 89.2% of the
donations go towards Programs for Child development, 1.8% for fund-raising,
and 9% for Management and admin costs.
VIBHA’s primary focus is supporting child-related projects. However, they
have mobilized fundraising efforts towards unforeseen calamities like Gujarat
Earthquake and Tsunami of 2010.
